Top 9th Edition 40k Army Lists From Skyslammer Tourney
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.
Note that it looks like the tournament used the new GW Grand Tournament scoring over the ITC’s point format.
3rd Place: Marcus Bjering- Dark Eldar
Hey Xenos players, were starting with some Dark Eldar in third place! A Patrol detachment of Kabal of the Black Heart was brought with some Sslyth surprisingly making the cut! Some Kabalite Warriors with blasters sprinkled in were probably used to hold some objectives and stay relevant with decent firepower. This Patrol was also paired with two Ravagers for some tank-busting firepower and a single Venom for some quick transport response.
Another Patrol was taken with some custom rules (6’s to wound are -1 AP, +1 to wound against big monsters or vehicles) was taken. Some Wyches filled the obligatory Troops selection in the detachment with the majority of the points being put into a Forge World Reaper and two Razorwing Jetfighters for some all-around solid firepower on mobile platforms.
Finally, a Prophets of Flesh Patrol was brought with a Haemonculus leading two Talos squads that ate up a quarter of the points themselves. These guys were some ground control bullies that more than likely claimed a section of the board and refused to ever give it up. Nice job!
2nd Place: Dark Angels- Elis Hammar
For Dark Angels, Elis brought a strong Ravenwing/Deathwing presence in a Battalion. Three Ravenwing characters including Sammael were in charge of two Deathwing Knights and a Deathwing Termie squad. These guys would probably drop in through deepstrike and claim a small footprint of the board.

For a turn one aggressive presence, some Ravenwing Bike squads and Black Knights hit the table. The cheap Attack Bike squad probably was there only to nab objectives quickly while the Black knights escorted the Talonmaster and Sammael into the thick of things. While the enemy was making preparations to deal with Bikes on turn one, by turn two, those Deathwing units dropped down and compounded the pressure that this list could apply. Good job.
1st Place: Johan Nicolaisen- Space Wolves
For this first place list, things are pretty straight forward. Logan Grimnar of all choices led a Patrol detachment with almost a quarter of the list’s points being dumped into Terminator Wolf Guard. These were given a mix of melee weapons and some dakka to be relevant with shooting and melee.
Finally, a Battalion bringing all the classic named characters was taken. The A-team of Arjac, Njall, and Ragnar rolled onto the field with some Intercessors grabbing objectives wherever they could. For some extra slappage, a Venerable Dread with a shield/axe combo added a Toughness spike to the list and was able to soak up a lot of anti-tank firepower.
Last but not least, two Wulfen bombs made their way into the frontlines of the enemy. Taking storm shields and thunder hammers on just about everyone, these guys were a serious speedbump to most lists. Chewing through that many 3++ invulns is rough. Especially when you’ve got multiple close combat units racing toward you as fast as possible.
