Hidden In Plain Sight: New 40k Combat Patrols Incoming

space-marines-9th-edition wal horSure we’ve seen combat patrols released with all the new 9th Edition 40k codexes, but it turns out there might be a couple more hidden in plain sight!

As it turns out a closer look at the Space Marine and Necron Codexes reveals a new Combat Patrol for each- hidden in plain sight! Combat Patrols are the rebranding reforming of Start Collecting boxes in 40k, of which we’ve seen Blood Angels, Space Wolves, and Deathwatch so far.

Hidden In Plain Sight: New 40k Combat Patrols Incoming

new 9th edition codexesYou may recall the first 9th edition codex releases in Necrons and Space Marines. They didn’t have Combat Patrol boxes released with the books like the other new codexes. This is almost certainly due to Indomitus and GW wanting players to turn to that when starting their armies.

However, looking inside the codex suggests that GW may have planned on Combat Patrol releases for them as well at some point after the Indomitus reboxing releases taper off.

sm combat patrolIf you have the Space Marine Codex, you may have noticed this page. It pretty much confirms a Combat Patrol at some point. It is interesting that this lineup is almost identical to the Elite Edition starter we saw earlier this year, just with a single ATV added.

Last time around with 8th edition, similar starters had stopped being sold around 6-12 months after the release. That means we may see the combat patrol for Space Marines release sometime in mid to late 2021.

necron combat patrolIn almost identical fashion to the Space Marines, the Necron codex also had a Combat Patrol page. The units showcased were also almost the exact lineup we saw in the edition. Except for the extra unit for the Necrons was the Canoptek Doomstalker.

So again, we may also see the combat patrol for Necrons to release sometime in mid-late 2021.

What do you think about the proposition of Combat Patrols releasing for Space Marines and Necrons? Do you see them waiting to release them?
