After the recent retail price increase, stores are starting to drop their discounts on Games Workshop and Warhammer products to customers.
We’re not blaming the companies who have to reduce their discount levels due to the recent Games Workshop price increases, as this is really out of their control. The latest GW price increase didn’t upset customers initially because it didn’t hit them directly, as it was only for retail partners.
However, as you’re about to see didn’t take long for it to start hitting everyone…
Retailers Drop Discounts on GW & Warhammer Products
Let’s start with the actual reason this is happening. In the United Kingdom, retailers reported that they were informed by Games Workshop of an upcoming 5.8% increase in costs to trade accounts effective December 19th, 2022.
Remember that this is not an increase to the suggested retail price consumers pay; it is to the price retailers pay to buy Games Workshop products for resale. Because of this, the retailers who used to have serious discounts look to be dropping those discounts down some.
Dark Sphere Games generally has big discounts on their site for GW stuff, but as you can see below, they have to change the discount. Again, this isn’t something they have any control over; just sad to see folks having to pay more at the register.
However, they aren’t the only ones who have had to change discounts; they just seem to be one of the stores that actually gave a reason. Other stores, however, in the UK appear to have made adjustments as stores are listing “up to” 20%, or 15-25%, etc.
Element Games lists a 15% minimum, but luckily you can still score some 25% off discounts too. We even noticed some GW Battleforce boxes, like the Custodes one was listed at no discount at all (now sold out).
Lastly, in the UK, we have Zatu Games, which offer a wide range of discounts but generally seem smaller than before. However, they didn’t list a set discount like some of the other retailers, so it’s a little harder to tell. Some items are close to 20% off, but the majority are currently listed at around 15% off.
Unfortunately, it looks like GW’s latest price increase is hitting customers sooner than maybe expected. Just something to keep an eye out for if you’re trying to save those hobby dollars!
