Now Artists Are Leaving Games Workshop at an Alarming Rate

Games-Workshop-losing-talent-artist-content-creators-presentersGames Workshop has been losing talented staff at an alarming rate, from content creators to the artists who made them great!

We cover a lot of the events going on at Games Workshop, both good and bad. This is a little alarming, as we’ve already seen creators like Duncan, Peachy, and Louise Sugden, among other presenters, leave.  However, with artists being the driving force behind the codexes, rulebooks, and everything Games Workshop puts out this could be a problem for the growth and sustainability of the company.  With 10th Edition Warhammer 40k here and so many new codexes to make, not to mention AoS and the Old World, they need amazing artists to bring the ideas to life!

Artists & Talented Staff Leaving Games Workshop at an Alarming Rate

This year alone, Paul Dainton, Phil Moss, and Thomas Elliot left Games Workshop, with Dainton illustrating for over 20 years there.

Paul Dainton Joins CMON

CMON announced that Dainton has joined them as a senior artist in 2023.

Artists Leaving GW

CMON is thrilled to announce the addition of Paul Dainton, an internationally acclaimed artist, to its illustrious team. Dainton will assume the role of Senior Artist, contributing his exceptional artistic vision and boundless creativity to CMON’s projects.

Paul has been an artist most of his life, starting out early with drawing comic characters. In college, he studied art, learning many different styles. After college, he worked as a freelance artist for several years before joining the ranks at Games Workshop, where he’s lent his artistic vision to games like Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar, amassing over 20 years’ experience with the company. In the last 5 years, he had become the head of the Warhammer 40,000 art team.

Not only did Paul have over 20 years of experience, but he was also the head of the Warhammer 40k art team! He also left back in August, so there’s a big chance he still worked on most of the 10th Edition books, but probably not all of them.

He may be a hard person to replace as the head of the Warhammer 40k art team.  You can see more of his art here.

Thomas Elliot has also played a considerable role in the company and created some of the coolest work out there!

He is now the Lead illustrator and art director of Arch Villian Games, which is another big blow to the talent pool at Games Workshop.

Phill Moss Exits

Phil Moss is out after eight years with GW and, like Dainton, created some of the 40k rulebook covers, which is tough to replace. This may be more than a little worrying for the company, as in 2023 alone, they lost three leading artists who have all created a ton of famous art for the company that brought the rules and books to life. We’ll have to see what this means moving forward, but losing so many vital components of your art team in one year can’t be good…
