A new meta Monday 40k era has begun, with the Chapter Approved mission pack and a (mostly) updated balance dataslate minus Deathguard…
We’re looking back on an absolutely insane weekend of 40k, and breaking down some key lists from the AC Champions Cup 2025 – Warhammer 40k Champs (Singles) with over 100 players, and a GW Mainline event in the Warhammer 40,000 GT – Warhammer Open Edmonton that topped out over 250 players!
Here’s what did well, and what you should know about these army lists for your next game of Warhammer 40k.
Latest Warhammer 10th Edition Meta Lists
The “Why GW Why” (trademark Art of War 40k) tier is Deathguard, seeing no points changes! They’re still probably the top dogs when it comes to singles, with so much efficiency in every aspect of their army right now.
Either way, if you’re playing 40k competitively, this one’s for you! With several new codexes already for 2025, the 40k Meta Mondays have been wild lately for every faction in the 10th Edition.
It’s time to dig into what’s winning right now, and why, with our look at the Meta Monday 40k army lists for June 16th, 2025!

Derek Apsche’s Army List: 40k Meta Breakdown
Derek proves he’s an absolute gentleman and a scholar, with fortitude known only to Nurgle himself, by showing restraint and only taking two Heavy Blight Launcher Drones.
Another staple in Deathguard currently is the 6″ deep strike charging Deathshroud Terminator squad led by a Lord of Contagion. This guy is not only a pile of Stats at T7 and 6W but he juices the Deathshroud with [Lance] AND [Sustained Hits 1] making the unit insanely efficient into anything as they’re already -1T their target at minimum and already have [Lethal Hits].
The Lord also stands back up on a 2+, disgusting.
The real unique twist in this list is Mortarion, who underwent significant changes in the new codex. His new Auras give Deathguard some crazy agency with effects like flat 5″ reactive move, 2+ fight on death, and shoot back after a unit finishes its attacks. This will definitely catch people off guard.
You need a plan for Deathguard at the moment, and it probably starts with solving the Blight Drone and Deathshroud question first for your Meta Monday 40k army.

John Lennon’s Army List: 40k Meta Breakdown
There’s been a lot of speculation about where Emperor’s Children will go with the points hikes to the triple Daemon Prince lists and other things, but John has found the perfect solution.
Maulerfiends! Maulerfiends not only gain some crazy efficiency from the rerolls in Coterie, but they also help address a glaring weakness of EC, T11+. The Meta is full of Knights and other bigs right now, and these guys can rip right through them, as John displayed in the finals against a very large pile of Daemons.
The Noise Marine profiles are still just too good to leave at home; they just rip through anything they look at with AP-Enough plus ignore cover.
The Daemon Prince with flip 6 makes for a difficult interaction for opposing armies as well, since he will be passing one failed save or attack every single turn after slamming you for a pile of mortals.
Many high-end players have been praising EC since before the NERFS, and this proves why.
Final Thoughts on These 40k Meta Army Lists
Right now is the absolute best time to start experimenting with your lists. Who knows how the meta will continue to shake out with Challenger Cards and the new tables (those shooting lanes on 7/8 now, am I right?).
With so many new codexes flooding the scene, along with a new mission pack, it’s nearly impossible to pinpoint a new meta monday 40k army right now. So start hammering out those practice games and fine-tuning your lists, you might be the one to discover the next top army list and write the meta yourself!
