Then it pads the crew out with the muscle you actually want for a real list, Legionaries for your core bodies, Terminators for that chunky punch, and Traitor Guardsmen to handle the dirty work while the Astartes take the glory.

Is The Lords of the Maelstrom Box Worth It?

Red Corsair RaidersOn straight-up value, the Lords of the Maelstrom battleforce actually brings it. You get around ninety bucks in savings, so you’re basically snagging the shiny new Reave-Captain and those Red Corsairs upgrade bits as a bonus, which is exactly what you want if you genuinely need everything inside.

It’s also the first stop for the new minis, so you can get your raiding party on the table fast instead of waiting around. This is also a bit of a downside because if you already have plenty of Legionaries and Terminators, you’re probably better off waiting and grabbing the two new units as separate boxes when they drop.

The other real catch is the obvious one: you’re not getting Huron in the box. And come on, if you’re running Red Corsairs, you probably want the big bad himself leading the crime spree. So yeah, that’s another purchase. The upside is that once you pair Huron with what’s in here, you’re suddenly not “starting a project,” you’re already pretty close to having an actual Red Corsairs force.

How Many Points Is This?

We would guess the Red Corsairs Lords of the Maelstrom Battleforce points are somewhere around 700

What to Buy Next?

Huron and CrewThe next buy is pretty obvious: Huron and his crew. If you’re going Red Corsairs, you want the legend on the table, not just the guy keeping the raid schedule on track.

After that, you start bolting on the support pieces. Grab Predators if you want reliable long-range firepower, a Land Raider if you want to shove your heavy hitters straight into someone’s face, or a couple of no-nonsense Rhinos to keep the bodies moving and the pressure up.

Then you just keep feeding the machine. Add a few more Raiders to pad your core and flex your loadouts, and suddenly you’re not “building toward an army” anymore. You’re basically there, just deciding how nasty you want the raids to get.

Final Thoughts From Us: Lords of the Maelstrom Battleforce

Red corsairs RaidersIf you’ve been waiting for Red Corsairs to feel like more than “Chaos Marines, but paint them red,” Lords of the Maelstrom is the closest thing to a real launch button we’ve seen in a while. You get the new toys up front, a solid infantry backbone behind them, and enough Corsairs flavor bits to make the whole force look like it crawled out of the Maelstrom to steal your lunch money.

Just go in with your eyes open. This box is at its best if you actually want the full spread. If you’re already sitting on a pile of Legionaries and Terminators, you might be better off waiting for the Raiders and Reave-Captain to drop on their own. And yeah, if you’re doing this properly, you’re still going to want Huron sooner rather than later.
