Yo dawg, I heard you like skulls, so I put more skulls on your character that has skulls and in order to get it you have to collect skulls.
I want to go beyond the price for a minute, because, in my opinion, if two consenting adults agree to an exchange of services for money, well, that’s their own business.
“But Felix, I wouldn’t be so outraged if the price wasn’t absurd. I mean look at it!”
Are we really so entitled that we feel like we must have access to everything a company makes at a price we can afford? We don’t all get a Picaso because we want one. Make no doubt, this plastic miniature, like all it’s ilk, are in fact works of art. Handcrafted Computer designed miracles of art and science.
This is an exclusive wrapped in an exclusive and smothered in exclusive sauce.
Unlike it’s past exclusives, like the void shield generator, you can’t complain this time that, “I need it to play my game.” Because you don’t, this guy is totally available for the low, low, price of $21.50
Let’s talk about what it takes to get this master-work of 40k art.
You have to buy 10 things for the opportunity buy this thing. Basically, the opposite of a loyalty program. For those who aren’t plebs, a loyalty program normally entices us plebs to buy more at a vendor with the hopes we’ll get something free. Like a free cup of coffee after we buy 10 overpriced ones! What a deal!
Lets further talk about this from a business prospective, yes, this is a cool thing to buy and I’m sure its upping sales. However, it’s also generating some ill-will because not everyone has a new Warhammer Store in their backyard, which is unfortunate for GW because they’ve been making some great steps. I imagine they’ll expand this program to the webstore, it would be great they brought this to FLGS’.
This model is amazing, I’d buy one, would I buy one for 500.00? No, but I’m just a pleb, so there’s that. I’m sure there’s a niche within a niche that will spend whatever it takes to complete their collection. The minimum you’re going to spend to get this guy is about 215.00. That’s assuming a 21.50 character model times 10, not including tax or the price of the model itself. I’m thinking the true cost of this guy is at least $250 after it’s all said and done.
Is this a 100% markup? Sure, but here’s the thing, GW doesn’t make a dime off that sale, which I guess is okay for them because selling one model for $500 themselves, or even $250 would generate a lot of bad blood.
Congratulate the entrepreneur who put this on eBay, give him a high five and be jealous he’ll be getting a new Warhammer army, or two, off the sale of one miniature.
I wish I had thought of this first.
