It’s time to be brave and make your model come together. Learn how to paint demon faces with the Creature Caster Warrior Demon as seen LIVE on our Twitch Stream!
In this Twitch painting tutorial, Rob breaks down how the face of miniatures is often overlooked and how you can go about making them the center point of your painting. Having a good face on your mini can make it pop just that enough to take your hobby skills to the next level.
To start off, getting the eyes right is key, but it can be difficult matching them up left to right. Grab a small brush, go in from the same direction, and have your paint watered down. All it takes is just a dot of paint to get the eyes done right.
Getting definition and contrasts, especially across the teeth, is what you want. Basecoat the teeth first with Menoth White Base, and then the upper parts with Menoth White Highlight.
Army Painter strong tone and quick shade wash medium will work great to help break out the features of the model’s face, and in between the teeth that may have been overlooked!
It’s good to have several thin layers of wash, so be patient in your painting. The quick shade allows for more smudging and is more forgiving if you glob it on too much. Another pro tip, add some quick highlighting to other spots on your miniatures.
Take a little Strong tone and mix it with your previous wash and add highlights as needed to your model like the chest on this guy, which is another stand out feature!
For the tongue on this model, Screamer Pink and Pink Horror will work well together. When you are working with colors that are around the purple spectrum, Bloodletter Glaze from Games Workshop will blend these colors fantastically. It will accent those pink and purple colors that you are going for on the tongue.
