Grey Knights might have a new meta sleeper in the army that everyone overlooked. Check out this list that came in 2nd place at an ITC event recently.
Are Grey Knights back in the meta? While one list doing well doesn’t determine anything as “being meta”, there is definitely something to say about the potential power of the army. Plus with Psychic Awakening promising new rules for every army, there are no better human psykers in the game than the GK’s. This codex may be poised for a run at the top sooner than later…
Grey Knights List Finishes 2nd Overall
Zachary Sanders
We’ve covered this list earlier. But there looks to be some units in this army that nobody expected to see. Digging deeper into the Interceptor squads and Purgation squads, Grey Knights might be popping up more and more.
Interceptor Squads-Why They’re Good
Interceptor Squads are a Fast Attack option for Grey Knights and are essentially the normal Strike squads (Troop choices) but can teleport 12″. This is a pseudo FLY mechanic in-game. But what Zachary did was load these guys down with Falchions, which might be the next Grey Knight hotness.
Not only does a squad of 10 Interceptors get 40 shots that can deepstrike in, but they can also pop a 1CP strat to give their boltguns +1 S and -1 AP. That means that’s 40 Heavy Bolter shots dropping in with no negative to hit. Moving into melee, the falchions cost 0 pts and give an extra attack at -2 AP and D3 damage. Combine that with the Hammer Hand psychic power and you’ve got a beat stick unit. that can blast away one squad of screens and charge something else.
Plus, thanks to the new Shock Assault rule, the normal dudes are getting 3 attacks on the charge with the Justicar getting 4. Not shabby. It’s like Death Company reinvented!
Purgation Squads with Psilencers- Why They’re Good
This list also brought three Purgation squads with Psilencers. These guns are all Heavy 6 S4 no AP, and D3 damage each. They don’t have the best strength or any AP, but any wounds that go through can wreak havoc. As far as rerolls go, Draigo got even better, letting everyone around him reroll ALL hit rolls without the stupid modifier wording. That means that these guys could move and still reroll any 3’s to hit.
All in all three of these squads were able to throw down 72 D3 damage shots all together in one shooting phase. That’s a ton of potential damage. And with Drago puppy guarding them and giving an even better reroll aura than before, we might be seeing these dudes make an uprising in the meta once again.
What do you think about these Grey Knights units? Would you rather use Death Company over Interceptor squads? Do you still have any of your old Grey Knights?
