Kenny from Next Level Painting is giving us a speed painting run down on how he does his own chaos knights quickly and efficiently.
Kenny loves his chaos and this is no exception. Today he’s giving us the rundown on how he gets his models tournament ready. Specifically, this Chaos Knight.
He starts off by using any silver spray primer and letting it sit overnight, just to make sure it’s thoroughly dried.
Following up that crispy base you’re going to take our handy-dandy Mr.Weathering black and brown and use it to wash over the parts we just primed silver.
Next, up use Pro Acyril Transparent Red and cover all of the armor plates primed silver. We are only using this as a thick glaze. We want some of the metallic paint underneath to shine through and make it look like the red is metallic. If you want it a little lighter, add some Pro Acyril Metallic Medium to the pot and use the new mixture as a sort of simple highlight.
Next up we need Pro Acyril Bronze and Copper and mix them together for our trim color. Just bang it all out, it’s gonna take a while but you gotta just go for it.
The next paint Kenny uses is Dark Iron from Secret Weapon Miniatures. Just use it on the remaining metals we haven’t covered yet. During this step, you also should go over all the interior with another layer of washes and add a wash to the cracks in between the armor panels on the armor.
If you want, you can also add streaks. When those dry they look great and mimic an industrial, stained look.
Pro Acyril Transparent Green is perfect for the canisters on the back. You can take any silver you’ve got and dry brush it onto the black metals from before, then go over the bronze trim with a highlight that is just slightly brighter. You can also take another layer of Mr.Hobby wash and cover all the black metals.
Last for this step is dry brushing silver onto the exoskeleton.
With that, our model is complete! It’s finished and definitely a good turn out for a speed paint. If you want a few extra tips, Kenny also shows a few bonuses. If you’re curious, check them out below!
