Don’t miss our unboxing and build of the 40k Catachan Ripper Jackson, as we compare her to the Catachan Colonel, and more!

This week we are cracking open the anniversary mini from GW and seeing what it takes to get her ready for the tabletop. It’s always cool to get an exclusive mini and now it will soon be available in all GW stores.

We are going to show you everything that the model comes with, how long it takes to build, and some size comparisons.  That way you can decide if this box is worth your hard-earned hobby dollars. Let’s go!

Exclusive Warhammer 40k Ripper Jackson Unboxing & Build

Ripper Jackson Store Anniversary Miniature

Back of Ripper Jackson BoxThese will soon be available in all GW stores and it looks like they will also be up for a limited time on their site. One of our staff members recently went to a store opening and this was available early. We’re guessing they wanted to give the attendees something special. We got it for $35 but not sure if that was a special for the opening or if that will be the official price.

Sprues & Instructions

Ripper Jackson SprueIt comes on a single sprue with a 32mm base. It comes in the standard packaging for the new character boxes. Nothing too crazy yet.

Sprue close up ripper jacksonEverything is very well detailed on the sprue. The bases, bolter, chainsword, and body all look awesome. Rob is a little worried because the two pieces that connect the body together are quite long. We’ll have to see if it leaves any gapping when connecting two long pieces like that.

Ripper Jackson Instructions 2

Ripper Jackson InstructionsThe instructions look pretty well done. Not really seeing any hang-ups or confusing ideas. They even give you the instructions for where every little piece on the base goes.

Built Mini

Completed Ripper Jackson

Completed Ripper Jackson 2Not too hard to build and she looks great! All the little fauna pieces really add a ton of character to the mini. There are some weird angles and nubs, so make sure you dry fit everything. If you dry-fit first, it’s pretty easy to build. It also turned out GW put the gaps in good places where there is naturally some depth. No problems really at all other than having to drill out the bolter. Overall a great looking mini that should be really fun to paint!

Size Comparisons

Ripper Jackson Size ComparisonA little bit smaller than the Colonel, but that’s what we expected. It’s nice that she has a fully specialized base where the Colonel just has a box to rest his foot on. Both of these are about the size of the Catachan Command Squad. And we assume if the original Catachan squads ever get a revamp they will go to a scale a bit more like these. The current models have more muscles than Arnold, so who knows what the new ones might look like!

Ripper Jackson Size Comparison PrimarisOf course, you needed the Primaris comparison! About the right size, with the Primaris being larger in most ways. Nothing too crazy about this one.

That does it for this one! Overall a really cool looking mini, but just keep in mind there are no extra bits. So if you’re looking to use this for conversions you won’t have a ton to work with. Especially with how she goes together.

Keep an eye out for this at your local GW store and possibly the website as well! Just no promises how many will be released on the site.
