Top 3 40k Army Lists: Seasons Beatings Tournament
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.
3rd Place: John Brock II- Imperial Fists
Starting off the list is it’s only and single Batallion of Imperial Fists. First up in the HQ slot there are two standard support choices in the Primaris Chaplain and Chapter Master. However, they made a unique choice by taking the Primaris Techmarine as well, suggesting they might have vital vehicles later in the list.
Moving onto Troops, there are three stock intercessor squads for bodies that can hold objectives. Follow that is Elites. The first two are an Aggressor Squad of 5 bringing a good volume of shots to help with chaff, while the Leviathan Dreadnought has a little more anti-armor options, and will prob get the attention of that Techmarine along with…
There’s a Primaris Apothecary to help keep troops topped off and two Redemptor Dreadnoughts for even more chaff clearing and a touch of anti-armor. Triple Inceptor Squads gives the list a ton of mobility, meaning it can advance up the board and have pretty good control of the flanks as well.
Lastly, there is a single squad of Eliminators to take out enemy characters while protecting your own.
2nd Place: Nicholas Hiatt- Chaos
Starting off the Chaos list, we see a focus on Thousand Sons with a patrol detachment. The First two HQ’s are an Ahriman for his great psychic support and a Daemon Prince for a beater that also happens to have access to psychic powers as well.
The Troops are 2 squads of Rubric Marines, 1 large 20 man squad with double Soulreaper cannons, and a smaller, 5 man base squad. Top that with 2 Baleflamer Heldrakes and it completes a decent amount of chaff clearing, while also having decent bodies to move up the board and abuse the psychic phase.
Moving onto the second patrol detachment, this time it’s undivided. The HQs are a Lord of Change and a Changcaster, for even more psychic support on top of what the list already had. A giant 30 man blob of Pink Horrors provides a ton of bodies that are difficult to deal with, while 2 squads of Nurglings are smaller and sometimes equally annoying to deal with. This detachment looks to want to abuse objectives while being very hard to kill.
Capping the list in the Noctilith crown to give invulnerable saves and allow the psykers to reroll tests, while a few extra reinforcement points are there to summon.
1st Place: Alex Kuehh- Blood Angels
Interestingly, this Blood Angel list only has a single Vanguard Detachment, which hints at a very Elite list. Starting off with a Chapter Master for rerolls and a Techmarine to heal some vehicles. Then right into Elites, there is a 5 man squad of Bladeguard Veterans, who are exceptional for their cost. There are also two Redemptor Dreadnoughts with chaff clearing loadouts, with a touch of anti-armor.
Then there are two 7 man Squads of Sanguinary Guard who are harder to hit and bring decent melee power while rushing up the board, or dropping in. The Sons of Sanguinius have a ton of Re-roll charge abilities and get a built-in +1 to charges too.
The last Elite is a 9 man Veteran Squad with jump packs and melee loadouts, which have become very common, due to their cheap and efficient plan to get into melee and melt a unit or two. There are also two Heavy support choices. A 6 man Eradicator Squad, for a good amount of anti-armor, and a Sicaran Omega, which also has great anti-armor weapons.
Blood Angels Victory- Congrats to Alex on the win!
