Necromunda Starter Box Hive War Value

By Travis Pasch | March 25th, 2021 | Categories: Necromunda, Warhammer 40k, Warhammer 40k Rumors

Is-this-Worth-It-necromunda-starter-set-value-hive-warsA new Necromunda Starter box dubbed Hive War is on the horizon, but the real question, what’s the value?

The new box was revealed in the latest GW preview dubbed Faith & Damnation (if you want to see everything revealed, go check it out here). The box itself is fairly similar in contents to the older starter set except with way better terrain in terms of quality.

If you did buy the old starter set, you’ll get one of the same gang- as House Escher makes another appearance. However, the other gang inside will be House Delaque.  On top of the gangs, there’s some of the new Dark Uprising terrain, a rulebook, markers, dice, and cards!

Necromunda Starter Box Hive War Value

You can’t go wrong with this, especially if you haven’t dipped your toe in and have wanted to test the waters of Necromunda.

For the price on release, it’s hard to really say, because the old box was only $125, so let’s just hope this stays the same.

necromunda starter box content

  • Escher Gang (10 Minis) $42 (previous gang MSRP $35)
  • Delaque Gang (10 minis) $42 (previous gang MSRP $35)
  • Zone Mortalis Columns & Walls $60 (based on Zone Mortalis Columns & Walls Set minus the removable doors)
  • Accessories (dice, cards, tokens, and board) Should be a value add for the starter: $0
  • Rulebook: $30 The preview stated this as introductory so we think there will be no additional content besides base rules and fluff present- half the value of the 2018 Rulebook release that included multiple Hive Wars books (MRSP $60). It’s unknown if this new tome will include some of the various house books from the last few years, but that would certainly raise it’s value for sure!
  • Barricades & Objectives: $17.50 (appears to be one half of the terrain set of the same name)

Total: $191.50

With all the terrain, rules, and minis, this seems like a good starter box in general- even if everything besides the gangs are fractions of their equivalent standalone model kits.

If this runs at the $125 price of the old starter set, there is still value for both new and veteran players. Potentially even more so if you have a friend to split this with and get (back) into the game.

What do you think about the new box? Will you be trying to pick it up?
