Top Homebrew 40k Army List: Rocky Top Rumble GT

40k-homebrew-army-listsAnother off-meta 40k army list emerged in the Rocky Top Rumble 40k Major Tournament, check this one out!

9th Edition’s meta is still settling, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. They didn’t do too bad and just goes to show that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Rocky Top Rumble 40k Major: Jeremy Stan- Imperium

rocktop imperiumFor the first half of the list, Jeremy went for a battalion of Imperial Guard! Guard haven’t seen hardly any play, but this list might help prove there is some space for them to help out other lists.

The Company and tank commanders are standard choices that allow the use of Commands and Orders, making the force more effective over the course of the game. 36 Infantry Guardsmen allow for a large number of bodies to help muck up objectives, or simply help out with a large volume of shots. Two Manticores on the other hand add extra ranged anti-armor shots, which every list needs access to at least some amount of.

rocktop imperium 2The second detachment on the other hand is a patrol of Adeptus Custodes. Overall this portion is very standard to what we have seen from the Ten Thousand in this edition so far.

Starting off with Valoris, not many characters give rerolls to hits and wounds anymore, but even on top of that Valoris is also a solo beat-stick by himself, making for an extremely efficient HQ.

10 base Custodians allow for some more bodies while being much more elite and dense than the guardsmen. For elites, the Praetor allows for a -1 to hit bubble for 6″ around him, which is extremely powerful. Lastly, there are 5 Aquilon Custodians running Storm Bolters and Power Gauntlets. These are the bulk of the list’s heavy hitters, offering plenty of shots and melee power on their own, so long as they survive the course of the game.

This list seems to be playing more of an attrition game, taking advantage of the guardsmen in the early turns, and hopefully, when both side’s forces are dwindling, the Custodes will outshine the opposition’s remaining forces.

Overall this list offers a little bit of a different approach but we like it because of their all-in on an aspect of their faction in a response to the meta.

Even better they got decent results from the player who piloted it! It’s also very encouraging when a player is able to play a widely considered “underpowered” army or list style so effectively.

What do you think about this homebrew 40k army list from last weekend that caught our eye?
