Another off-meta Warhammer 9th Edition 40k army list emerged in the London Open February, check this one out!
9th Edition’s meta is again in flux, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. This just goes to show us that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.
Top Homebrew 40k Army List: London Open February
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.
If you wanted to see the names and factions of the overall winners, we’ve included that below.
However, we aren’t covering all those lists, instead, we will be looking at just one of our favorites this week.
London Open February: Tom Radford – Death Guard
Tom did relatively well with a faction we haven’t seen towards the top in a while, which makes it all the more encouraging! His list consisted of a single battalion led by a Death Guard Daemon Prince and a Lord of Contagion.
The Daemon Prince has wings making him a mobile threat and thanks to his statline he can pack a serious punch at anything unlucky enough to end up in melee against it. The Lord of Contagion is a decent lord with a hit re-roll aura and another great melee HQ.
Troops see some cheap options to help soak wounds and sit on objectives. These are 10 Cultists, and 40 of the slightly better/more expensive Poxwalkers. Plenty of bodies to muck up some areas.
Elites bring a total of 9 Deathshroud Terminators, which are very good melee combatants with some amazing durability. However, they also have the benefit of being able to prevent nearby characters from being targeted by ranged attacks, making these great options to walk around with the HQs. There is also a Foul Blightspawn, which is a decent character with a good flamer, plus they can force an enemy unit to fight last.
Fast Attacks bring two Fleshmower Foetid Bloat-drones, which pack a similar punch as Daemon Princes, making them a great option to deal damage if they can make it into melee.
Finally closing the list out is 3 Plagueburst Crawlers, which are great tanks that can earn value over the whole game thanks to their long-range mortars that will pump out damage every turn they can shoot.
All-in-all this is a pretty standard list for DG, but it’s nice to be reminded that they are still certainly viable in competitive settings if the general is good enough!
