The War In The Burg GT: Homebrew 40k Army List

40k-homebrew-army-listsDeathwatch is still viable in competitive play as another off-meta Warhammer 40k army list emerged in The War In The Burg GT!

9th Edition’s meta is again in flux, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. This just goes to show us that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.

If you wanted to see the names and factions of the overall winners, we’ve included that below. You can also check out the details of the event here.

However, we aren’t covering all those lists, instead, we will be looking at just one of our favorites this week.

The War In The Burg GT: Mark  Hertel – Deathwatch 5th Place

Mark Hertel 1Mark’s Deathwatch is a battalion led by a Librarian for Psychic support, and chaplain for litany support, and a watch master for re-rolls!

The massive bulk of the list is Troops, with the first being a Proteus Kill Team with 3 Missile and Fist terminators, 4 missile launcher vets, a vanguard with 2 chainswords, and the sergeant. This allows for some durable bodies and some great blast weapons.

The second Proteus Kill Team is much more melee-focused with 4 mini smash captains, 4 vets with chainsword and boltguns, a single biker, and a sergeant with a heavy thunder hammer.

The third Proteus goes fro mobility and flexibility with Jumpacks on 4 chainsword boltgun vets and 2 vanguard with thunder hammers. there are also 3 bikers and a sergeant.

The 4th and final Proteus has another major melee focus with 4 shield and hammer terminators for some very durable threats along with 3 vets with chainsword and boltguns, a single biker, and the sergeant.

Lastly on the list is a 10-man Spectrust Kill Team with 5 snipers, 4 infiltrators, and the sergeant.

So the biggest thing for Deathwatch is effectively mix-and-matching for the best possible efficiency. Tweaking and mastering the loadouts is hard and changes with metas, but if you can, you get to be the perfect swiss army knife faction.
