List of New 40k Chapter Approved Secondary Objectives

There looks to be a huge list of new secondary objectives for just about every faction coming in the new 40k Chapter Approved Nephilim book.

We cleaned up the new product preview image from GW and you can clearly see who is getting what, along with the overall table of contents as well.

So it looks like there will be about 40 pages of new Secondary Objectives, followed by another 40 or so pages of missions, etc.

But the meat and potatoes of the book will most likely be from pages 4-7 where all the new Warlord Traits, relics, and Command Point 40k rules changes are.

GW Confirms 40k Chapter Approved Matched Play Changes

Chapter Approved Changes 3

First up, secondary objectives have received an overhaul. No more flipping between books – all the secondary objectives you can pick from are revised and collated here. That includes faction-specific objectives – there are even secondary objectives for factions that haven’t yet received their newest codex, such as the bold Astra Millitarum or frenzied World Eaters. Each player starts with three generic secondary objectives – Assassination, Grind Them Down, and Behind Enemy Lines – which they can swap out ahead of deployment. Another change – there are no limits when it comes to faction secondary objectives. If you want to pick two objectives specific to your faction, or even all three, go right ahead – so long as they’re all from a different category.

This is quite the change and it might actually make the game easier for newer players as they could always just keep the three. However, it could obviously come with its fair share of issues.

Still, we’ll have to play some games with it and see what it actually changes in terms of gameplay and if it makes things feel more balanced.

There is every major faction and sub-faction in the game listed, so while we’ve included them all for you to check out, we will only break down some of the biggest players.

Here are the ones for the Imperium:

Nephilim Chapter Approved Adeptus Astartes Secondaries

A few minor tweaks happened here, but nothing too insane.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Black Templars Secondaries

Black Templars see a few nice changes which will hopefully help them out.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Blood Angels Secondaries

Death From Above got a bit easier to score and is possible to get a solid 5 VP in a turn, making for a decent update to the option.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Dark Angels Secondaries

Dark Angels saw some NERFs, but overall they probably aren’t too big and should still be pretty comparable to the past.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Deathwatch Secondaries

Deathwatch didn’t have many great options before and for the most part that’s still sadly true.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Imperial Fist and Iron Hands Secondaries

Imperial Fists and Iron Hands saw a single adjustment each.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Raven Guard and Salamanders Secondaries

Raven Guard and Salamanders both saw a single adjustment.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Space Wolves Secondaries

Most of the Space Wolves’ options are much better than before, so hopefully, the faction sees a nice boost in viability.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Ultramarines and White Scars SecondariesWhite Scars got one option, but it is insanely strong. There’s a mix of VPs for killing on the charge, killing after advancing with shots, and killing a character or monster after charging.

The great thing about this is you’ll already be doing all of this naturally with a White Scars list, making this a very easy choice for players.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Adepta Sororitas Secondaries

Sisters see a nice boost here with Slay the Heretic getting simplified allowing for shots throughout a turn to score VP and allowing multiple weapon types to score points simultaneously.

Defend the Shrine also got better now that you can choose the obj to mark for the mission, making for an easy 9-12 points in most missions.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Adeptus Custodes Secondaries

Custodes lost Stranglehold and To the Last, so hopefully their new tweaked options are good enough.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Adeptus Mechanicus Secondaries

Unfortunately, Ad Mech didn’t get much help in the secondary department.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Astra Militarum Secondaries

The imperial guard got a suite of new options, all of which seem a little bit interesting to test out.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Imperial Knights Secondaries

Imperial Knights are mostly unchanged.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Imperial Knights 2 Secondaries

Nephilim Chapter Approved Grey Knights Secondaries

Grey Knights saw minor adjustments but are mostly the same.

List of 40k Chapter Approved Chaos Secondary Objectives

Nephilim Chapter Approved Chao Space Marines Secondaries

The 3 big options for any CSM list seem ok for the most part.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Alpha Legion and Black Legion Secondaries

Alpha Legion and Black Legion both have one option, but the Alpha Legion one is incredibly on theme and even better looks decent to use.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Creations of Bile and Emperors Children Secondaries

Creations of Bile and Emperor’s Children also have one option a piece.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Iron Warriors and Night Lords Secondaries

Iron Warriors and Nightlords each have a single option in the book.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Red Corsairs and Word Bearers Secondaries

Red Corsairs and Word Bearers each saw a single adjustment.

Nephilim Chapter Approved World Eaters Secondaries

World Eaters got a single option in the book.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Death Guard Secondaries

Death Guard got some better secondaries, which most likely means they got a boost in competitive play. Fleeing Vectors and Spread the Sickness are both much better now!

Nephilim Chapter ApprovedThousand Sons Secondaries

The Thousand Sons saw two big changes with a large nerf to Wrath of Magnus and a buff of relatively equal size to Sorcerous Prowess making for a hopefully equally good faction that could contend with the top dogs.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Chaos Knights Secondaries

With the removal of Stranglehold, the Chaos Knight’s Ruthless Tyranny is looking like a much better option!

Nephilim Chapter Approved Chaos Knights 2 Secondaries

Nephilim Chapter Approved Chaos Daemons Secondaries

Chaos Daemons get a full three options.

List of 40k Chapter Approved Xenos Secondary Objectives

Nephilim Chapter Approved Eldar Secondaries

Eldar didn’t see too many changes here.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Dark Eldar Secondaries

Dark Eldar saw improvements to both Purge the Enemy options and got a nerf to Herd the Prey which was pretty warranted.

Nephilim Chapter Approved harlequins Secondaries

Harlequins were good and will continue to be as they saw a few buffs in their secondary options.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Tyranids Hive Tendril Secondaries

Even though Tyranids got their codex recently, Cranial Feasting actually got a pretty significant buff here!

Nephilim Chapter Approved Genestealer Cults Secondaries

All Genestealer Cults options saw improvement!

Nephilim Chapter Approved Necrons Secondaries

Necrons also saw some buffs across the board!

Nephilim Chapter Approved Orks Secondaries

Orks saw a few changes, but are mostly improved.

Nephilim Chapter Approved Tau Secondaries

Tau is more or less unchanged.

Any way you look at it, big changes are coming for Matched Play in the new Warhammer 40k Chapter Approved Nephilim book.
