Stores Manipulating Price of the 40k MTG Collector Sets

Warhammer-magic-the-gathering-price-manipulationIt looks like some stores are engaged in a scheme of price manipulation on the new Warhammer 40k Magic the Gathering collector decks…

Here’s what is happening currently with the Warhammer 40k Magic Commander Collector Decks as some sellers are trying to catch other stores and customers unawares in a profit scheme.

Magic the Gathering 40k Commander Collector Decks Price Manipulation

Reddit seems to be the first to notice the issue and explain what looks to be happening:

Yesterday there were hundreds of units of Warhammer collectors edition decks listed and “sold” on TCG player for $1 each to tank the listed market prices of these products.

Oddly it seems like the Necron Dynasties deck was not targeted at all.

Manipulate Card Prices

So, why is lowering the price of the cards a bit scummy? Well, if stores set their automatic pricing to “market price” on TCG Player, they will sell too low. Worse, there is automation out there to snap buy-up mistakes as a scummy practice by other sellers.
This means a normal consumer won’t be able to take advantage of any of the lower prices as the other stores just buy everything immediately. Then, those sellers just go back and sell the decks for higher prices, as Wizards didn’t print out enough of some of the decks.
As you can see below, the “market price” is currently insanely lower than the actual price (and even what Wizards were initially selling theirs for on Amazon).

Good luck finding those decks for that price, however…
Honestly, this could be a problem with anything on the TCG Player platform overall because of how the system works. The manipulation of price isn’t super complicated but impacts a lot of stores that use automation to keep their prices “competitive.”

We hope TCG Player looks at the issue because, theoretically, it could happen to any product on the platform. Right now, it seems to be limited to attempted price manipulation of just the Magic the Gathering Warhammer 40k Commander Collector Decks.
