It looks like the sold-out Chainbreaker Lance Warhammer 40k Battleforce is coming back soon for stores that were shorted this holiday!
We had heard from many stores that they wouldn’t be receiving their allotment of the Battleforce, and now, it looks like Games Workshop will come through after all.
This news comes from North American stores we polled, so we’re not exactly sure how the situation will develop in other countries like Australia and New Zealand, which haven’t even received theirs yet however.
Chainbreaker Lance Battleforce is Coming Back Soon!
Initially, when stores ordered the Battleforce, they were either zeroed out on their invoice or received an allocated amount. From the stores we spoke with, they were either told about this change at the last minute or not at all, that there would be no supply.
However, things have taken an exciting turn now. The Chainbreaker Lance will now be an MTO offering for trade accounts in NA. This means we probably won’t see any of them hit shelves until mid-February. This is better than never getting them, but it raises a few interesting questions.
First, the stores must receive what they initially ordered with this MTO offering, meaning some stores will get a ton. Second, will hobbyists still be interested come February? We expect they will still be able to sell them, but the box’s release date may raise a bigger question about price.
More Games Workshop Price Increases?
In February 2021, GW announced they were raised prices on over 3,000 items. This means if they do it around the same time in 2023, there’s a potential chance this box will sell for more.
We really hope that’s not the case. Still, if Games Workshop sends these to stores at a higher price (as they could do the price increase a little sooner or make the trade partners pay the higher costs like what happened in the UK recently), they basically have no choice but also to increase the price for customers.
Either way, we’d rather stores eventually get the boxes than not. Let’s just hope this doesn’t somehow line up with a price increase!
This is also interesting as Games Workshop generally doesn’t send things to trade accounts as MTO, so we’ll have to see if hobbyists are still interested in them by the time they return to local stores in 2o23.
