New 40k Boarding Patrol Boxes: From Hot Mess To Good Value

Is-this-Worth-It-&-Value-warhammer-40k-boarding-patrolsHere’s the value breakdown of the four new Warhammer 40k Boarding Patrol boxes for Adeptus Mechanicus, Daemons, Genestealer Cults, and Death Guard!

This is the third set or wave of Boarding Patrol box sets we’ve seen so far, and while the Space Marines one sells for $110, however, we have the confirmed price on these, and unfortunately, they go as high as $140.

These are sort of like small Combat Patrol boxes made specifically to be fielded for the new Boarding Actions. So, expect them all to have a lot of foot sloggers.

If you missed it, we look at the latest pricing and values of the new Warhammer 40k box sets in separate posts below:

Updated 40k Boarding Patrol Boxes: What’s the Value?

New Boarding Patrols

The only problem? Everyone else wants in on the action, and now the whole galaxy is boarding the Arks of Omen in search of glory, treasure, or just a big punch-up. In fact, four more Boarding Patrol boxes are preparing for launch in the near future – and only one of them might be said to have the Emperor’s best interests at heart…

Still, the lineup of boxes this time is pretty interesting when it comes to the contents!

Adeptus Mechanicus $140

New Boarding Patrols 2

The Adeptus Mechanicus bring a flexible force of 10 Skitarii, who can be built as Rangers or Vanguard, backed up by three hulking Kataphrons, which can be built as Destroyers or the appropriately-named Breachers. Scouting ahead are five Sicarians, who can be built as Ruststalkers or Infiltrators, all led by a Tech-Priest Dominus with a variety of arcane wargear options and a thirst for voidborne relics.

  • 10 Skitarii $50
  • 3 Kataphrons $60
  • five Sicarians $55
  • Tech-Priest Dominus $38

Total MSRP: $203

Savings versus $140 box price: $63

Honestly, we’re not sure why they raised the price so much on this one, because the value just isn’t that great at $140, but not terrible. However, the models inside are a little random, but if you need all three of the units inside and the Techpriest, this is a decent pickup.

Chaos Daemons $130

40k Boarding Patrol Boxes

Chaos Daemons have – appropriately, given the arrival of Angron – manifested as a huffing and slavering crash of Khornate nightmares. 10 Bloodletters and 10 Flesh Hounds are led by Khorne’s favourite hunter – Karanak, the Hound of Vengeance. In the cramped confines of a space hulk, these frenzied killers will close the distance between enemy guns with warp-flushed speed and savagery.

  • 10 Bloodletters $38
  • 10 Flesh Hounds $110 ($55 for 5)
  • Karanak $38

Total MSRP: $186

Savings versus $130 box price: $56

Well, if you really want a bunch of Flesh Hounds and Karanak, then this is a “yes.” If you don’t want a bunch of Flesh Hounds, then no. This one is pretty simple; the Flesh Hounds would cost $110 on their own, so this basically means you get the Bloodletters and Karanak for free.

But again, not sure why the price increased from the others at $125, because now it doesn’t even have $60 in value.

Genestealer Cults $125

40k Boarding Patrol Boxes

This Boarding Patrol contains 17 models in total – one gunslinging Kelermorph inspires a team of 10 Acolyte Hybrids, who can also be built as Hybrid Metamorphs, while a hulking Abominant is joined by his little Mindwyrm Familiar friend, and five nearly-as-hulking Aberrants.

  • Kelermorph $32
  • 10 Acolyte Hybrids $84 ($42 for 5)
  • Abominant $32
  • 5 Aberrants $42

Total MSRP: $190

Savings versus $125 box price: $65

Well, the value is pretty decent, but again, it comes down to whether you need the units inside. If you don’t need a single unit, the box value goes way down. However, if you need everything inside, you get the 10 Acolyte Hybrids for close to free!

So, a pretty decent way to add to or start your GSC force.

Death Guard $115

40k Boarding Patrol Boxes

Finally, the Death Guard heed Abaddon’s call, with an obdurate if slimy Boarding Patrol led by a Lord of Virulence. He’s joined by a bodyguard of three Deathshroud Terminators, as well as 10 versatile Plague Marines – three of which are taken from the much-sought-after Plague Marine Reinforcements set.

  • Lord of Virulence $38
  • Three Deathshroud Terminators $60
  • 10 Plague Marines $97 (7 Plague Marines are $55, and the reinforcements pack with three is $42)

Total MSRP: $195

Savings versus $115 box price: $80

This one is strange because a lot of the value comes from the Plague Marines, and considering the reinforcements box is so expensive for three minis; it’s hard to say.

While the dollar value is there, you get a lot of that value in the expensive reinforcements box. However, if you wanted those Plague Marines in your army, this is an excellent box in terms of value.
