GW Confirms the Best & Worst 40k Meta Armies Into March

warhammer-40k-rules-update-balance-dataslate-walAccording to the data from Games Workshop, these are the best (top winning) and worst Warhammer 40k armies in the meta right now!

GW has been keeping a closer eye on the meta recently and is trying to keep everyone right around that 50% win rate with the Dataslates, Chapter Approveds, and FAQs. However, the game has a lot of rules and mechanics, so not every army will always stay balanced!

All this data is based on the recent Balance Dataslate and Chapter Approved book. It’s been about a month or two since they both came out, so they are fully in effect now. Let’s see what armies are doing well and which armies are struggling.

GW Confirms the Best & Worst 40k Meta Armies Headed Into March

The graph comes from this Warhammer Community post.

Warhammer 40k meta Summer 2023

Event attendance is up around the globe – we handled 50% more games in data this February compared with last February, with a similar boost in player numbers. This gives us a clearer and more comprehensive picture of balance, and the good news is that more factions are in that Goldilocks Zone with a win rate of between 45% and 55%. There’s plenty of diversity in event winners too, but Dark Angels and Genestealer Cults are definitely leading the pack.

So, some big takeaways (starting with the top of the list), Dark Angels actually increased their already insanely high win rate from 57% to 59%. GSC only decreased its win rate by 1%, so not much of a change there. One of the biggest changes from the top is Harlequins, as they dropped 5%, which is a considerable decrease.

Lastly, the Leagues of Votann went up by 3%, so pretty significant, but it could just be people are getting better at playing them.

Now, for the bottom end of things. Thousand Sons fell 4% further down, so they definitely need some help. At this point, Deathwatch just needs a new book; they have been on the bottom for the entire time now.

Next Tyranids got some NERFs and fell 5% from 50%. So, maybe a little too much on them. They also gave Ad Mech a lot of buffs, but they only increased by 1% so far, so maybe more help is needed there…
