From the looks of it, Games Workshop actually released the Dark Angels 10th Edition 40k wave of products ten days early!
We’ve had the roadmap for 10th Edition for some time now, but in these challenging times, it seems like the roadmap might be more of a guide than something to go on as an absolute! Again, we’re not complaining about getting minis early, but it might shake up the rest of the spring releases in a little bit different order than we originally expected.
The 10th Edition 40k Codex Roadmap has been here for a while, and if all goes according to plan, a whopping 12 Warhammer 40k codex books will be released by this summer alone! However, if you look at the roadmap, the Dark Angels were actually supposed to be released this spring. So, while it may feel like it in some places already, Spring actually starts on March 19th, 2024.
Games Workshop Released Dark Angels 10 Days Early
The new Dark Angels supplement and miniatures, however, have a street date of March 9th, making them ten days early, according to this roadmap. While it may feel odd to get something actually early from Games Workshop (as we’ve had so many shipping delays, restock issues, etc.), we’re not going to complain about it!
This could also be a strategy from GW because they could pair the remaining roadmap army releases together going forward. There were supposed to be five armies in spring, but with Dark Angels dropping early, it now leaves the option for two drops of two armies (similar to the Necrons and Ad Mech in December 2023.)
That way, armies that don’t get as many new minis can be paired with a faction getting a bit more new products, and it could all balance out for Games Workshop’s revenue.
So What Faction is Next For Warhammer 40k?
Our guess is Orks! While GW has been showing off a lot of Tau stuff, we think that’s just due to not having a ton of new Orks to release this go around. In 9th Edition, the Orks got a massive rework. So, while we would love a ton of new miniatures, we feel like they might be one of the factions only grabbing a couple of new releases. This could make them perfect to drop around the same time as a faction that is getting a larger release (like Tau.)
Regardless, Orks recently got a whole slew of new miniatures, some reworks, and an army box. In February 2024, they also got this new character as well. So, this time around, we don’t expect such a giant release ( though, we would love to be wrong).
When to Expect the ‘Redacted’ Faction Reveal
We originally thought AdeptiCon would be the most realistic time, but GW did announce a sneaky preview early in March. Either way, early March is the perfect time to drop the previews for the redacted faction, so we probably don’t have too long to wait.
Either way, GW was a little early for Dark Angels, but we have a lot of factions to go in the spring. We expect Orks to get the next codex release in Warhammer 40k, hopefully very soon! After all, Spring 2024 officially starts March 19th and ends June 20th, 2024; spring just came early for the Dark Angels.
