In May 2026, Games Workshop announced that the Vostroyan Firstborn, the proud, fur-hatted Astra Militarum regiment that debuted back in 2006 during the Fall of Medusa V campaign, would return for a Made to Order (MTO) run. Nine days was all you had to grab these metal models at retail instead of eBay prices, and if you missed it, the section below is what the window actually contained, and what the originals are going for now.
The lineup brought back most of the original Vostroyan range, including the full Vostroyan Platoon, separate 10-model squads, command boxes, special weapons, and three different heavy weapons teams. And this was the first official rerun since the 2018 holiday Made to Order window, which closed on January 2, 2019.

Who Are the Vostroyan Firstborn?

The Vostroyan Firstborn are Astra Militarum regiments from Vostroya, an industrial forge world with a very old debt to pay. During the Horus Heresy, Vostroya kept its workers in the manufactoria instead of sending regiments to fight for the Emperor. Obviously, that didn’t go unpunished.
Here’s how GW describes the penance: Vostroyans “pledge the firstborn child of every family, common or noble, to the service of the Astra Militarum, as penance for refusing to supply the God-Emperor with regiments during the Horus Heresy.”
That oath is exactly where the Vostroyan Firstborn name comes from, and it also helps explain their very distinctive look. GW says Vostroyan is “a powerful industrial planet with a legacy of fine weapons and wargear, and its regiments honor a tradition of passing down their ornate equipment to new recruits.”
So, that gives the army its long tunics, tall fur hats, and ornate hand-crafted lasguns instead of the more practical flak-armor look of a Cadian. Since recruits arrive one firstborn at a time rather than through huge levies, Vostroyan regiments also aren’t raised and disbanded like most Guard regiments.
The Vostroyan Firstborn design pulls heavily from Tsarist Russia and the Cossacks, while the Valhallan Ice Warriors lean much more toward the Soviet Red Army. The models first appeared in 2006 during the Fall of Medusa V campaign, were sculpted in metal, and have never received a plastic reissue.

The Vostroyan Platoon is the anchor of the lineup, and it’s where most collectors will start. It comes with a Command Squad (Commander, Veteran with master vox, Standard Bearer, and Veteran with medi-pack), 20 Vostroyan Guardsmen including two sergeants and a pair of special weapons, plus three Lascannon Teams. Which is enough to anchor a Vostroyan-themed list out of one box.
Games Workshop also let us know that these models are perfect for stand-ins for current Astra Militarum models, too.
GW is also splitting the range up if you don’t want the full platoon. There’s also a 10-model Vostroyan squad with a sergeant and flamer, a separate Command Squad box, and three different Commanders armed with chainsword, power fist, or plasma pistol and power sword.
For special weapons, you get individual Guardsmen with plasma gun, grenade launcher, or flamer, plus a sniper rifle pair. And the heavy bolter, lascannon, and mortar teams are sold individually too, so you can fill in gaps from the Platoon box without buying a second one and ending up with twenty extra rifles.
Just keep in mind that when GW places an MTO order like this, the wait time can be up to 180 days or more. Plus, the product listings themselves confirmed that these will be the standard metal models, just as when they were first released, and not resin or plastic versions.

Before MTO, Vostroyan Command Squads Were Going For $264 To $438 On eBay

Honestly, the secondary-market read is what makes this MTO relevant. Currently active eBay listings show painted Vostroyan Command Squads moving for $264 to $438, depending on condition (or if they are NIB), lascannon teams sitting around $45 to $80, and single OOP sergeants running about $25-$40 used.
So keep in mind the starting “floor” going into this announcement.
Once GW prices the Made to Order kits, expect those listings to either drop hard or hold steady if sellers play up the “rare collector metals” angle. But the MTO won’t come in the original boxes, so the originals that are still new in box (NIB) typically sell for more, just because of that.
Still, Made to Order kits historically don’t tank the secondary market the way a hard reissue does, because supply still closes after the window. But it definitely cools the panic buying that drives prices a bit.
The Last Vostroyan Made-to-Order Window Closed In January 2019
The previous Vostroyan Firstborn Made to Order window ran from Christmas Day 2018 through January 2, 2019. That was the last call lineup: one week, then gone. And earlier that year, GW had announced it was scaling Guard back to Cadians, Death Korps of Krieg, and Tempestus Scions, which made the holiday MTO window feel like the actual goodbye for every other Imperial Guard regiment.
That’s about seven and a half years between official availabilities. Meanwhile, the secondary market hardened, a generation of new Guard players never saw these models in person, and people just had to hope GW would issue another MTO.

Honestly, it was a nostalgia drop wrapped inside a real Astra Militarum push, which is unusual timing for a Made to Order.
Most MTO offerings happen in dead release windows, not on top of an active campaign book.
The good news is that if the platoon box matches 2018 retail, eBay listings on painted command squads are going to break in half overnight. And if this works, expect a second wave of older Astra Militarum kits like Steel Legion, Tallarn, and maybe even Mordian Iron Guard to follow on the same Made to Order rails.
