MWG Liquidates Dave’s Massive Chaos Army; Ravaged Star Wave 2 Update Looks Rough

Dave liquidates the “Biggest Chaos Space Marine Army in the World” and MiniWarGaming’s Ravaged Star Wave 2 update left backers confused.

Back in December 2024, MiniWarGaming wasn’t just showing backers concept art for  Ravaged Star Wave Two. It had PVC samples from the Massive Monstrosities War Pack. Now Update #83 is finally here, Wave One is crawling toward fulfillment, and there’s still nothing resembling a real Wave Two road map. At this point, that gap between those two updates is a little wild if you’re a backer.

The timing isn’t helping, either. MWG is downsizing and selling off its studio armies, which we covered in our September 2 news roundup. Now Dave’s gigantic Chaos Space Marines collection is going up for sale too.

If you’ve been sweating this crowdfunded pledge since the campaign’s last day, that’s two BIG stories hitting in the same week. And honestly, those two stories look a lot worse side by side…

MiniWarGaming Said the Wave Two Molds Were Done in 2024

ARTICLE SUMMARY:
  • What’s happening now: Wave One finally moving is good news, but Wave Two now looks like the bigger problem hanging over Ravaged Star.
  • What we have seen so far: In December 2024, MWG said Wave Two mold-making was complete, PVC samples were in hand, and fulfillment was planned about five months after Wave One. Nearly two years later, there’s no clear Wave Two timeline.
  • What’s next: Backers stop asking whether Wave One ships and start asking whether a smaller MiniWarGaming has a funded plan for Wave Two.

mold making complete

Go back to December 2024. MiniWarGaming told backers the plan was still to fulfill Wave Two roughly five months after Wave One, with “no change to that currently.” The same update had a heading that hasn’t aged particularly well: “Wave 2 Mold-Making Complete.”

So MWG had the PVC samples, and backers had already seen models from Massive Monstrosities. Plus, earlier in 2024, MWG was even describing Wave Two as being in a strong position well ahead of its planned fulfillment. So yeah, you can see why this is pretty noticeable at the end of 2026, especially to anyone who’s watched every Kickstarter-style delay this hobby can throw at them.

So, almost two years later, what are backers supposed to think? If the molds and samples were finished in 2024, what’s still standing between Wave Two and full production?

Wave One Shipping Doesn’t Close Out Ravaged Star

Either way, Wave One product moving through fulfillment is real progress. After the Ravaged Star mess sat jammed up in manufacturing and logistics for so long, MWG gets credit for finally moving it along.

Wave One was never the entire pledge, though. The campaign page lists four Wave Two War Packs: Champions of the Immari, The Unyielding, Winged Hordes, and Massive Monstrosities. Wave Two shipping was always supposed to happen separately, after Wave One.

Once those first boxes start landing on doorsteps, anyone who pledged for the full Ravaged Star lineup is naturally going to look toward the other half of the campaign.

Dave’s Chaos Army Going Up for Sale Says More Than Any Announcement

On September 23, MiniWarGaming posted “Dave Gives Up His MASSIVE Chaos Army” and sent viewers directly to a dedicated sale page for the collection.

This isn’t just leftover inventory gathering dust. Dave’s Chaos Space Marines army grew over years of MWG videos, battle reports, huge Apocalypse games, hobby projects, and community contributions. MWG previously showed it at roughly 144,000 points, and Dave has talked about trying to build the world’s largest Chaos Space Marine army.

He’s also talked about models in the collection having personal connections to friends and other people in the hobby. This isn’t some spare 2,000-point studio army that’s been sitting untouched for three editions.

Seeing that collection broken into individual listings makes MWG’s downsizing feel a whole lot more real than a company post ever could.

A Smaller MiniWarGaming Still Has to Build and Ship Wave Two

To be fair, downsizing could help the business. A smaller MiniWarGaming could mean lower payroll, lower operating costs, less inventory sitting around, and fewer distractions. Selling armies and cutting expenses could make the business easier to keep running.

But Ravaged Star still needs manufacturing, freight, fulfillment, customer service, and money. None of those costs disappear just because payroll shrinks.

And let’s be clear: MWG hasn’t said Dave’s Chaos army is being sold to pay for Ravaged Star, and we’re not claiming that’s happening. Matthew’s September follow-up pointed viewers straight to the army liquidation, and longtime MWG supporters are looking at a long-delayed campaign and a shrinking company at the same time.

We’re not asking whether MWG is about to disappear. The big question on everyone’s mind may be whether the leaner version of the company can finish Wave Two.

Final Thoughts on MiniWarGaming and Ravaged Star Wave Two

For now, Update #83 may have raised more questions than it answered. Sure, Wave One moving finally closes a chapter of the Ravaged Star mess, and backers who’ve waited years for plastic have earned that win.

But MWG set the Wave Two bar with its own December 2024 update: molds complete, samples in hand, and fulfillment about five months behind Wave One.

So, until MiniWarGaming gives backers a Wave Two timeline based on where things actually stand in 2026, every army sale and every quiet update will probably be read against those 2024 promises.
