We know they’re coming – will the new Horus Heresy Starter be the best deal ever from Games Workshop?
To get an idea on what the new starter set may contain in addition to the Astartes sprues and Praetor/Centurion HQ that we’ve seen so far, let’s take a look back at the rumors from earlier in the year!
What seemed far-fetched back then, obviously doesn’t sound to crazy anymore…

Horus Heresy Starter Set
2 sides, Identically Equipped
Models are NOT legion marked.
Generic Heresy-era models.
– Early Heresy mark armor Astartes x20
– Cataphractii Terminators x5
– Contemptor Dreadnought x1
– Praetor x1
So way back in February, we were hearing that the Cataphractii and the Contemptor would be the anchors to a new starter set. After seeing the leaked pictures of the Heresy sprues, is that too hard to believe now?
Take a look at the Praetor/Centurion Sprue.
That appears to be a ‘clampack’ style sprue with what looks to be a powered armor and Cataphractii armor models.
Seems like GW has the tech to make plastic versions of the Cataphractii as exibited above, so perhaps that means that a plastic version of the Contemptor is also in our future too? Possible for this box set in fact?
Now remember that if this becomes a staple system in Games Workshop stores to replace the Hobbit, like we’ve been hearing, they can easily break apart this box and make smaller box set releases after the starter comes out as well.
Question is what will the price be for this behemoth of a starter set?
Traditionally in the past we’ve never seen a starter set go over $135 (or $150ish for the Stormclaw). That price would make the contents above an obvious value, and may even entice multiple purchases of the same box in fact.
Seems to me that a starter set of Horus Heresy as listed above and priced at a ‘bundle’ discount, may just be the best deal we’ve ever seen from Games Workshop.
