Hello Everyone Josh here again. Would you like to learn how to paint robots? Well now you can in just a few steps with this simple tutorial. In today’s article I will go over how to paint the Kastellan Robots in their traditional colors of mars.
To start this model you will want to spray it with army painters dragon red. This is a great substitute for khorne red as a base coat. And to save you even more time you should probably do both robots at once.
Once thats dry were going to want to do all the metal joints and pipes. For this you will need these colors.
1. Leadbelcher
2. Nuln Oil
3. Ironbreaker
You will want to go around the model and pick out all the metal spots and paint them a basecoat of leadbelcher. Make sure to leave all the sunken in rivets red we will be back to get those later. After that wash all the metal spots with nuln oil. Once the nuln oil is completely dry go around once more and highlight up the metal using Ironbreaker. This isnt the last of the metal were doing but its as far as you want to go right now youll see why in a few steps.
For this next step we will be highlighting up the red.
1. Mephiston red
2. Evil Sunz Scarlet
3. Wild Rider Red
Now to do the red you will want to highlight all the plates with the mephiston red. Once the mephiston is all done go around and put down a layer of evil sunz scarlet leaving the mephiston around the creases and deep recess’s. Then you will lay down an edge along all the plates using the wild rider red. You can lay down as much or as little of these colors as you like these are just to amplify the red. On my model I tried to make it look like the light was bouncing on it by only adding the highlights to areas light would actually hit.
Now were almost done with painting the robot. Well need these colors for the details.
1. Brass Scorpion
2. Agrax Earthshade
3. Runefang Steel
4. Abaddon Black
5. Pallid Wych Flesh
First go to all the spots you want to paint gold and lay down a basecoat of brass scorpion. Then wash the gold with agrax earthshade. Once thats dry you can edge highlight it with runefang steel. Also this would be the time to do those rivits. Just hit the tops of all of them with runefang steel. Lastly to paint all the mechanicus emblems, these can be done quite easily by painting the whole thing abaddon black and then doing the half face and cog in pallid wych flesh.
For the last step all we will be doing is the base. To start the base lay down a nice even layer of martian ironearth. Once it dries go ahead and glue some of the burnt grass to it and your model is complete.
