Blood for the Hellbrute, Skulls for Khorne!

Checkout this hot Hellbrute of Khorne by Robert Weiss (aka Brass Scorpion).

Bob entered this into our “Free Dark Vengeance Hobby Contest” here at Spikey Bits, and as I saw the Work In progress shots on his Facebook I asked him to do a little write up on it, as I am a bit of a Chaos nut myself.

So here’s his conversion guide for all you followers of the Dark Khornate Mechanicus Gods!

From Brass Scorpion:
When the local GW Bowie Battle Bunker invited me to help present a conversion clinic on the new Dark Vengeance Chaos Helbrute model I knew it was a good opportunity to create that Khorne Dreadnought I’d always wanted to do. Khorne instructed me to create a savage monster that would relentlessly pursue skulls for the Skull Throne. Kadmos the Decapitator, the buzz saw wielding Dreadnought of Khorne is the result.

I used a spare Juggernaut head from the Bloodcrushers kit on the Helbrute and I sculpted a neck to match up with the muscles and wires behind the head to fill the resulting gap using Apoxie Sculpt.

I cut off the existing gun barrels and claw hand so as to replace them with buzz saw blades that I hand cut from plastic card. The saw fittings and hex nuts are custom cut from plastic strips and plastic hexagonal rod.

Some additional cutting in the arms was necessary to create a channel for the saw blades. The additional spikes on the right arm saw come from a part on the Chaos Vehicle Hatch Sprue.

The basing of the model was done with putty and textured paint. A Khorne skull rune and Chaos star were cut into the putty while it was soft. I wanted it to appear that the ground upon which the Decapitator walked was volcanically cracked and burning with the Khorne infused daemonic rage that burned inside him.

I used a lot of different colours of Citadel Paint for layering and blending. The main colours used for painting this model were Mephiston Red, Evil Sunz Scarlet, Nuln Oil, Agrax Earthshade, Caliban Green, Moot Green, Warpstone Glow, Carroburg Crimson, Brass Scorpion, Auric Armour Gold, Abaddon Black, Cadian Fleshtone, Kislev Flesh.

Some of the fleshy parts are painted in medium flesh tones and shaded a deep red to help convey the idea that the inorganic parts and organic parts are mutating and melding into another as the pilot and his red machine are fused into one.

The warping influence of Chaos is making it difficult to distinguish from one another. The gifts of Chaos are as harsh as its blood-frenzied servants!

Me Likey! I actually just started on my own Nurgle Flavored Hellbrute, who is now holding up production on my chaos titan!  Sigh…. Pictures below! -Enjoy MBG
