Now that Games Workshop has officially switched from Vanguard to Spearhead box sets for Age of Sigmar 4th edition, we know the pricing, value, and what to expect in future offerings.

Age of Sigmar Spearhead Boxes

It’s worth noting that every Age of Sigmar faction has a Spearhead box available. 

In 2025, the Age of Sigmar Spearhead price increased to $150 in the United States from $145. However, your local gaming store may still offer them at the old or even a discounted price.

Moreover, in Age of Sigmar 4th edition, Games Workshop has introduced a new, quick-play game mode specifically for these boxes, followed by its first expansion, Sand & Bone.

Why Were AoS Vanguard Boxes Rebranded to Spearhead?

As of 2024, Games Workshop has rebranded these bundle boxes from Vanguard to Spearhead in order to match the new game type in Age of Sigmar 4th Edition.

The Spearhead force of each faction is made from a single box, and all the Vanguard boxes available on the market will eventually be rebranded as Spearhead box sets, but still have the same pricing and value.

Here are the updated values and pricing breakdown for all the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Spearhead boxes.

Based on the pricing, GW seems to give about $60-$70+ of value in their AoS Vanguard boxes (and generally much better deals than 40k). However, some box sets are a bit better of a deal and a great way to start, as we will show you in the breakdown below!

Which of The Boxes Has the Best Pricing and Value?

The Stormcast Eternals Spearhead box is the absolute MVP. At $145 for a whopping $118 in value, it’s basically Games Workshop saying, “Here, have some extra minis on the house.”

Runner-up? The Cities of Sigmar Spearhead and Orruk Warclans Spearhead, coming in hot with $96 and $102.50 in value, respectively. Not too shabby at all.

On the flip side, the Flesh-Eater Courts box is that friend who shows up late and eats all your snacks—only $45.50 in value, ouch. So yeah, if you’re looking to stretch your hobby dollar like it’s made of elastic, Stormcast is your (literal) golden ticket.

Games of Age of Sigmar Spearhead Rules (Separate Game Mode)

GW released new 4th Edition AoS Spearhead faction rules for the corresponding boxes, just like they did for the Warhammer 40k Combat Patrols.

• The new rules will let you play games after buying a single Spearhead box.
• The Spearhead boxes will come with different rules, warscrolls, and objectives.
•  Spearhead is a stand-alone game that can serve as a great primer for AoS’s full-scale battles.
• The smaller size of the game makes it ideal for a kitchen or coffee table.
• Spearhead forces possess units with the REINFORCEMENTS keyword, which enables them to be resurrected on the battlefield even after they have been destroyed.

• The units  in Spearhead generally have the same attributes and weapon profiles as their Age of Sigmar equivalents
• In Spearhead, the Bolt of Tzeentch spell has been simplified into a simple ability.

Overall, the release of the Spearhead rules for Age of Sigmar gives players a new and exciting way to play the game, especially for those who are just starting.
