About Rob Baer: Founder, Publisher, & Managing Editor of Spikey Bits, the leading tabletop gaming news website focused on the hobby side of wargaming and miniatures.

Rob also co-founded and is a panelist on the weekly Long War Podcast, which has over 500 episodes and focuses on tabletop miniatures gaming, specializing in Warhammer 40k, and spent six years writing for Bell of Lost Souls.

Every year, he and his co-hosts help host the Long War 40k Doubles Tournament at Adepticon and the Long War 40k Doubles at the Las Vegas Open, both of which attract thousands of players from around the world.

Rob has also won many Warhammer 40k Tournaments over the years, including multiple first-place finishes in Warhammer 40k Grand Tournaments and even winning 1st place at the 2011 Adepticon 40k Team Tournament. He was even featured for his painting in issue #304 of Games Workshop’s White Dwarf Magazine.

With over 30 years of experience in retail and distribution, Rob knows all the products and exactly which ones are the best. As a member of GAMA (Game Manufacturers Association), he advocates for gaming stores and manufacturers in these difficult times. He also advises major hedge funds on stocks like Games Workshop and Asmodee.

He is always looking for the next big thing to feature for the miniatures hobby, helping everyone provide the value consumers want.

While he’s played every edition of Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy (since 5th Edition) and has been hobbying on miniatures since the 1980s, Titans of all sizes will always be his favorite! It’s even rumored that his hobby vault rivals the Solemnance Galleries, containing rulebooks filled with lore from editions long past, ancient packs of black-bordered Magic Cards, and models made of both pewter and resin.

This figure is part of his Slaaneshi themed Eldar Crone world army from deep in the Eye of Chaos. Recently at the shop I clearance-ed out a lot of overstocks, and one of the items […]

Today we have yet more madness, as Jkin has been at it again converting more Spartan Marines. He’s going to be making a whole army of these guys, and I have no doubts that he can do it either. To make his “Spartans” Jkin de-ultraed Marenus Calgar’s Honor Guard, and then added in a spear […]

Caleb over at White Metal Games posted up this Land Raider Achilles conversion a while back. I like it, it’s simple and goes together well. The problem with huge intricate projects is that, the bigger they are, the harder they fall- out of interest. Personally I have a ton of half finished projects lying around. These days I just try to keep […]

Check out this amazing kit-bashed Hovercraft! I cant imagine how much the actual cost of this model ended up being, but it’s still awesome! Looks like whomever made it attached a converted Baneblade on top of a 1:35? Scale Hovercraft, and then converted it out to mesh together. This creation was on display during Games Workshop’s Conversion […]

Welcome to Flashback Fridays, where I dig deep for something cool that I have from back in the day. Which according to the comic Dane Cook was a Wednesday… You always hear the question: “How did you get into the hobby?”, and for me it was getting bored with assembling fighter jet models. I could never afford […]

A few years back I made some Ork Warbuggy conversions, and just recently found the pictures from the project- hidden deep in the bowels of my computer. The conversion is basically a slimmed down Ork Trukk made into a buggy. For a time they served in my Ork army, but these eventually formed the base for my […]

Checkout one of the most impressive Orky conversions that I can recall. This baby was on display during Games Workshop’s Conversion Contest at a recent Games Day, and it rocks! It’s chock full of details from the seasick lad, to the little dinghy trailing behind, this thing is awesome. No wonder this model took home […]
