About Rob Baer: Founder, Publisher, & Managing Editor of Spikey Bits, the leading tabletop gaming news website focused on the hobby side of wargaming and miniatures.

Rob also co-founded and is a panelist on the weekly Long War Podcast, which has over 500 episodes and focuses on tabletop miniatures gaming, specializing in Warhammer 40k, and spent six years writing for Bell of Lost Souls.

Every year, he and his co-hosts help host the Long War 40k Doubles Tournament at Adepticon and the Long War 40k Doubles at the Las Vegas Open, both of which attract thousands of players from around the world.

Rob has also won many Warhammer 40k Tournaments over the years, including multiple first-place finishes in Warhammer 40k Grand Tournaments and even winning 1st place at the 2011 Adepticon 40k Team Tournament. He was even featured for his painting in issue #304 of Games Workshop’s White Dwarf Magazine.

With over 30 years of experience in retail and distribution, Rob knows all the products and exactly which ones are the best. As a member of GAMA (Game Manufacturers Association), he advocates for gaming stores and manufacturers in these difficult times. He also advises major hedge funds on stocks like Games Workshop and Asmodee.

He is always looking for the next big thing to feature for the miniatures hobby, helping everyone provide the value consumers want.

While he’s played every edition of Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy (since 5th Edition) and has been hobbying on miniatures since the 1980s, Titans of all sizes will always be his favorite! It’s even rumored that his hobby vault rivals the Solemnance Galleries, containing rulebooks filled with lore from editions long past, ancient packs of black-bordered Magic Cards, and models made of both pewter and resin.

Just a reminder our Miniature Market will be next Saturday Sept. 4th at 11am. It also happens to be the same day the new Warhammer Fantasy 8th Edition Box Sets go on sale. So there is two great reasons to come up (well three if you count swapping out your High Elves or Skaven models […]

Okay we all had some time to think about it. So here are the moves you can make to achieve victory over the Space Marines. Daemons Are Scary The biggest hurdle to winning this game is the rhino lurking on the left.   It’s unassuming but it can single handily keep the Daemons from winning. […]

I had been thinking about making some “Chaotic” Thunderwolf  Calvary models for awhile now.  When I saw the preview models for the Bloodcrushers a few weeks ago, I knew I’d be adding some “space wolf lords” to my Chaos army. So I just got some of the new Bloodcrushers and started converting them up. Here […]

I saw these guys the other day, along with the Ku’Gath model I posted earlier, and was really really impressed with them. The are brought to us by the same Nuglely genius; isotope99.  This is his walk through of how to make plastic plague bearers (which if you are chaotic at heart like me, this […]

We’ve all issues with primer- whether it was too much, too little, flakes, or fuzzy paint it’s one of the most frustrating parts of the hobby.  Mastering this basic technique is easy however- as the most common solution is to not prime your minis in high humidity. Also keep in mind the distance between the […]

One of the most highly requested model kits has now been released in plastic, and best of all you get three in one box! The new kit is by far superior to the old pewter ones.  There is a ton of gubbins in the new box, along with alternate horn options for the Juggernauts as […]

I used to really enjoy an old article in Inquest Magazine (published for Magic the Gathering) called Dead Man’s Hand.  You would only have one turn left and you had to kill your opponent that turn, or you lose. They showed you your hand and the battlefield, and you had to come up with the […]

Here is the list (more or less I think I edited it some towards the end) I took at War Games Con.  It served me well! I had 4 wins and going into day 2 I was on Table 11.  That would have probably gone well for me, if I had shown up to play […]

We’re starting a 40k Campaign this Wednesday at FTW Games, and I thought it would be awesome to revisit the old Vogen system.  I lucked out and still had the old PDFs of the campaign.  So I converted them over to the 5th edition rules set for everyone to use!If you decide to run the […]

This awesome conversion is from isotope99 over on the BoLS Lounge.  I was REALLY impressed with it so I thought I’d share.  isotope99: “The last of my four greater daemons is the Nurgle special character Ku’Gath. It says in the codex that he takes his laboratory with him and rides in a planquin. I updated […]

Well it took me long enough (sorry Chris) but here is a great looking Tyranid Army by Chris Showers.  I played against this army at Cabin Fever ’10 GT in Harrisburg, PA, and I was floored by the looks it. What makes this army even better is the fact that those Hive Guards were painted […]

Recently I had a few requests for some articles that focused more on some of the basic hobby techniques I use, and I thought this was a great idea. I would always get fired up myself when I was reading a painting magazine and they would just skim over a crucial step for something I […]

Recently at FTW Games we had to get a lot of terrain made up for our 40k RTT.  Fortunately the local gaming club, Stony Point Refugees, had a bunch of Cities of Death buildings assembled. So I opted for the quick and easy route and based them all with Foamboad (also known as Foamcore). Why […]

Well true believers, I have managed to just about finish up my Stormraven Conversion. I know, I know, it took like two months but to be fair I did open up a gaming shop in there someplace! I really tried to put a lot of detail into this puppy and actually rebuilt it twice, as […]
