Duncan Rhodes is back with his first non-GW painting tutorial. He breaks down how to paint a new Sororitas model. Check out the new video format!
Coming from Duncan’s YouTube channel, Duncan Rhodes Painting Academy, the first tutorial to hit the watch list is of a new Sister of Battle. It’s also interesting to note that while Duncan officially broke away from GW, he still uses Citadel paints.

After only a few seconds of watching the video, you can see a bunch of similarities to some of GW’s preview videos. From the editing to even the guitar track intro, it appears that staring in GW’s videos may have paid off for Duncan because as of this writing his video had 16,000 views already!
Duncan might only use Citadel paints in the video. But the first brush he picks up is an Army Painter paintbrush. This is the first non-GW thing we’ve seen Duncan ever even mention let alone use for his own minis.
While the video may be over twenty minutes, he also still has a quick frame transition between the steps of paint. However, in these videos, Duncan is able to talk about technique a bit more and there’s way more footage of him actually applying the strokes.
Overall, it seems like an extended Citadel Paint video with a more in-depth look at technique, some do’s and don’ts, etc.
At the end of the video, he shows the finished product of the Sister standing on a base that looks like it rolled right out of the GW hobby table and is ready to appear in an official preview!
As this is the first time we’ve seen Duncan branch out on his own, it’ll definitely be interesting to see what else releases in the coming months. Be sure to sub to his YouTube channel to keep up with the lord of thin coats!
