The Warhammer 40k September Balance Dataslate update will be a game changer; here is what may revitalize 10th Edition again!
Warhammer 40k has stagnated right at the beginning of 10th edition, and there is a lot riding on the September balance update.
Not only is the meta all over the place, but Games Workshop has also barely released anything for the edition since Leviathan. With hardly any new releases, a lousy tournament meta, and no codexes yet, the game has pretty much stagnated.
However, GW is actually doing a lot right with this edition, as they put out all the rules for free right off the bat and are giving us a Balance Dataslate within the first three months of play. In 9th Edition (2020-2023), it took over a year for GW to even realize there was a need for balance…
Even if the meta wasn’t very great, but GW had kept the new releases on the way, people would at least have something to look forward to. Right now, there’s just not too much to get excited about, but the September Dataslate has the ability to turn things around!
10th Edition 40k Balance Dataslate Release Date Revealed
The new release date for the 10th Edition Warhammer 40k Balance Dataslate comes from Warhammer Community.

While there are plenty of armies at the bottom to buff, we’re unsure how much they will buff. Rumors are more focused on NERFS, and they might wait to see how that affects the meta.
Big changes are rumored to be coming for the following:
- Eldar Wraithlord Points NERF
- Yncarne assault or appear not both at the same time.
- Necrons Cryptothralls infinite regenerating
- Changes to Towering as it’s the top home rule for every event, and Imperial Knights are mixed after 60 point increase and having blocking ruins.
- GSC, where do we start
A Lot is Riding on the Warhammer 40k September Balance Dataslate Update
If you missed out, GW announced a 10th Edition 40k Balance Dataslate for September, and with the state of the game, we really need it. As you can see below, this is one of the most lopsided metas we’ve ever seen. GW has been extremely slow to release anything for the new edition, and with even the GW army list builder app going to a paid service soon, we feel like Warhammer 40k needs a shakeup to get people interested in 10th edition once again…
Win rates continue to fluctuate as players grapple with an edition still in its infancy, figuring out the tactics needed to secure victory in the new ruleset. There have been several surprise results at various tournaments that challenge the overall data, but enough games have been played that we can now pick up trends.Â
Accordingly, the Warhammer Studio are already hard at work on the next points updates and balance dataslate for release this September, which will aim to lift struggling factions just as much as it reels in the top performers.Â
GW tries to keep armies in the 45% to 55% range, and for 10th, very few armies actually fall in that range. 15 factions are actually either really better or way worse than the rest.
Eldar has been leading the pack since the release of the game, and even a couple of NERFs didn’t do too much to them. Hopefully, GW has taken notes and is going to actually make moves to bring the meta back to normal.
As we said, for friendly and home games, the meta isn’t as important, as you can pretty much play armies near each other in the tier lists, and you’ll have good games. However, with the lack of releases, there isn’t much else for players to focus on.
Which, in turn means everyone is talking about the current balance issues that seem to make people not want to play.
These Kill Teams are really the only releases we’ve seen for 40k in weeks. Even during Leviathan, there were allocations, meaning everyone who wanted it couldn’t even get the box. This just leaves the game in a strange spot, with a lousy meta, no actual new releases, and not much to think about other than the imbalanced rules.
Just think about how long ago we saw these models revealed, and they still aren’t out on their own, let alone all the models from Leviathan and the new models for both Tyranids and Space Marines.
GW is Doing Some Things Right
To be fair, GW said the codexes wouldn’t be here till Autumn, so that is coming up soon. With a little luck, the September balance update will be enough to revitalize the meta and actually bring armies to the right win rates.
They also are attempting to dial in the meta far faster than in 9th edition (or any other edition for that matter.)
In 9th, things started out more balanced because it was an extension of 8th, not a totally new ruleset. This time around, they gave out every single faction free rules right at the very beginning of the edition, which is a huge undertaking, and while they didn’t really get it right, they are putting out a big balance update and points within a few months of release.
Obviously, things are a little rough right now, but GW has done some good things to start, and you have to give them credit where it’s due. Also, if they stay on course, they have nine codexes planned for the edition, which is pretty awesome to know the schedule this far in advance.
Do you think the Warhammer 40k September Balance Dataslate update will be enough to revitalize the edition?
