GW confirms the best and worst armies of 10th Edition 40k with a new meta watch and gave a date for the first Balance Dataslate!
There’s been a lot of talk about the power level of factions in 10th Edition Warhammer 40k, how the meta is shaping up, and if the game is balanced. Now that a decent number of tournaments have happened for 10th over the last few months, we have a better idea of the meta (and GW finally shows their numbers).Â
From the data, there are some pretty obvious winners and losers to start the edition. So from the sounds of it, GW is aware of the actual problems with each faction and will make significant changes with the upcoming 10th Edition Balance Dataslate.
GW Confirms the Best & Worst Armies of 10th Edition 40k
The latest best and worst armies of Warhammer 40k and 10th Edition Balance Dataslate Metawatch is from Warhammer Community.
Factions that began the new edition with a spring in their step – such as the Imperial Knights and Genestealer Cults – continue to overperform, even after balance adjustments to the Aeldari Strands of Fate ability and Towering units.Â
Strong factions typically influence the entire competitive environment, as rival armies are built to combat specific units and archetypes – meaning the Warhammer Studio have to anticipate the impact that even minor changes might have on other factions.
We’ve talked about this as well, that the armies that are the best in the meta will also be the most played, meaning any changes make a huge impact on the win rates.
However, even though they made initial changes to the best two armies, it didn’t really do much, as you’ll see below.
Win rates continue to fluctuate as players grapple with an edition still in its infancy, figuring out the tactics needed to secure victory in the new ruleset. There have been several surprise results at various tournaments that challenge the overall data, but enough games have been played that we can now pick up trends.Â
Accordingly, the Warhammer Studio are already hard at work on the next points updates and balance dataslate for release this September, which will aim to lift struggling factions just as much as it reels in the top performers.Â
Having looked at tournaments for the past few months, there are no big surprises on the top armies, but it’s nice to see Games Workshop confirm it all. Basically, in every tournament we look at, Aeldari, Knights, GSC, and Custodes are either winning or placing in the top three.
However, a 67% win rate (currently 70%) for Aeldari is just insane and possibly the highest win rate we’ve seen over the course of a few months. However, GSC isn’t far behind, with a 63% win rate. Imperial Knights and Custodes are still a little above the meta, but as Games Workshop stated 55% is acceptable, meaning they don’t have too far to go to be balanced.
On the other end of the spectrum, we have some serious issues. Astra Militarum is barely dipping below 45%, but there are a lot of armies falling below that mark. Leagues of Votann, Tau, and Death Guard are officially the worst, with Votann taking the last spot.
We’ll have to see what happens, but the game needs some significant changes as GW tries to keep each army at a 45%-55% win rate. And right now, there are so many armies outside that range, on both the good and bad side of it.
If you’re mad at the meta right now, luckily, the first 10th Edition Balance Dataslate is coming along with point updates in September, so things should get more balanced soon.
