Hobbyists are upset about the poor writing and huge oversights in the 40k Forge World Legends FAQ- here is a better way to play with them.
With the Legends getting a lot of people riled up, we wanted to look at an alternative to fielding them with rules that make sense. Since you can’t use them in tournaments anyway, why not use the more comprehensive Imperial Armour entries for your favorite Legends models that have an incorrect FAQ entry?
Here’s a Better Way To Play With Forge World Legends Units
You can always use the new points to balance them out more, but the Legends FAQ has been rife with mistakes. Making some of the entires basically impossible to use. i.e. the Gorgon had no transport capacity for a while…
The Imperial Armour books, while not the most balanced at times, were mostly well written. So, with the FAQ having so many issues, it seems like the better option for now. Again, this is nothing official, just something most opponents don’t seem like they would complain about. Since you’re never going to be able to use them in a tourney or get new rules for them, you basically need your opponent to agree to use them anyway.
Using Imperial Armour Indexes instead of Legends FAQ
Let’s take a look at some of the errors we found just skimming the FAQ:
The first of two big errors still in the is for the Daemon Samus. For one it has Balistic skill and absolutely no shooting profile, which is strange enough. However, it also has an incorrect wargear option:
This model’s Iron Claw can be replaced with 1 warpsword
Unfortunately, Samus doesn’t have an iron claw to replace!
Similar to Samus, the Plague Hulk has Balistic skill and absolutely no shooting profile, seems like GW copypasta strikes again.

Once again, Plague Hulks don’t have an iron claw to replace, but Soul Grinders do… 1, 2, 3 copypastas in a row, ah, ah, ah!
There was a clear needed update though, in the original document before they rolled out the current ghost updated version. The Gorgon in the original document couldn’t transport units! That seems strange considering that’s a pretty big part of the kit, but luckily it can transport again.
Also, it’s worth mentioning that the Gorgon was just re-released as a kit after nearly a 10-year absence from Forge World just to get SQUATTED into oblivion again.
These are some of the things we just noticed by skimming it! So let us know what else you have been seeing wrong. Now though, let’s look at the difference between these entries and an Imperial Armour one:

You can see right away just how much easier this is to read and not full of Copy Pasta errors! Obviously, you should still use the new points, but why not use this entry instead? At least until the FAQ gets changed (if it ever does…)
Again, just a suggestion, but since you’re only going to be using these in home games, it makes sense to use the better-written rules. While they are updating the FAQ, no guarantee it will ever be perfect. The rules in the Imperial Armour Indexes are very well laid out and you’ve already paid for them, so why not use them?
