Today they are walking us through a really cool mini, that has a ton of flesh and armor! This is quite a long tutorial so we’re going to break this into two parts, we’ll be covering the flesh today, so be sure to check back later for the other half! Just as a note, all the paints used in this video will be from them, which you can pick up all the colors here.
How to Paint Marvel Crisis Protocol M.O.D.O.K Army Painter
Here are the minis we are going to be painting up today, let’s see how to get it done!
Painting the Eyes & Teeth
He starts with Necromancer Cloak in his Wet Palette and hits the eyes. Then, once that’s dry, he uses Ash Grey and leaves a little of the darker color, and hits the majority of the eyes.
Next, take Spaceship Exterior and hit a smaller portion of the eyes. He does the eyes first because it’s easier to paint your mistakes over the skin than redoing the eyes. To finish them off, he finishes with a little bit of Matt White.
He starts by doing a base coat on all the teeth with Skeleton Bone. Next, mix some Matt White and lighten up the edges of the teeth, but leave some of the darker in the recesses. Once dry, he takes a Flesh wash and hits all the teeth. Give that about 15 minutes to dry and hit the teeth with Strong Tone, and then Dark Tone only in the corners of the mouth.
Once those are all dry, he comes back with the mix and lightens the front of the teeth back up. To finish it off, he does a finale highlight with just the white.
Painting the Skin
To start, he uses Barbarian Flesh (the same color as the primer) and tidies up any mistakes from the previous steps. Then he does a quick was with Flesh Wash over the whole face. After that’s dry, he comes back with the Barbarian Flesh and picks out all the high points, basically use the wash as a coloring book.
For the start of the highlights, he breaks out Elven Flesh and feathers the color into the other tone, but still leaving areas of the previous flesh and only hitting where light would actually hit. Once dry he switches to Corpse Pale and does basically the same thing as before but in just more of a highlight.
One little trick he does to finish the skin off, he takes a little Purple Tone and works it into the cracks and recesses, this will just give it a more realistic feel. If it does start to stain the other areas, just take a brush with clean water and use that to clean it up.
Painting the Hair
The basecoat on all the hair is Dirt Spatter, just be sure to get good coverage here. Next, he takes a big brush and dry brushes the whole thing with Leather Brown. To lighten the hair up further, after that, he hits it with a more focused dry brush of Basilisk Brown.
To bring the color back to a browner color, he hits the whole thing with Strong Tone. Once dry, come back with the Basilisk Brown and pick out some highlights on the hair. Just be sure to do this more towards the outer edges. To finish off the hair, he does a final highlight with Skeleton Bone and does a much more focused highlight.
