New Warhammer 40k Iron Hands Codex Rules

Updated on October 22nd, 2025, by Rob Baer with the latest rules.

From Dreadnoughts stomping through gunfire to Terminators teleporting back into orbit mid-fight, the new Warhammer 40k Iron Hands rules prove that flesh really is weak, and they’ve got the augmetics to prove it. The Hammer of Avernīi detachment is a love letter to cold logic, machine vengeance, and the kind of mechanical efficiency that makes tech-priests blush.

Here’s why this detachment from the Warhammer 40k Iron Hands codex is pure metal. And don’t forget, these rules plug right into the main Space Marine codex, so make sure to check that out right here before Ferrus Manus judges you for inefficiency.

Calculated Annihilation: Iron Hands Rules

Core Iron Hands RulesThe new Warhammer 40k Iron Hands codex rules for the Hammer of Avernīii detachment isn’t about flashy fire or reckless heroics. It’s about precision; grim, statistical, servo-assisted precision.

Every attack made by a unit with Oath of Moment gets to re-roll Wound rolls of 1, and when Caanok Var finally gets turned into spare parts, you just recalculate by assigning a new Oath target instantly. Efficiency at its finest.

Think of it as the Iron Hands version of “measure twice, dismember once.”

Only Iron Hands units can be used here, so if your army still has any flesh left that isn’t reinforced by steel, you’re in the wrong detachment.

Iron Hands Rules Enhancements:

Iron Hands RulesIf your heroes aren’t at least half machine, are they even Iron Hands? The Hammer of Avernii enhancements crank up that cybernetic swagger:

  • Spiritus Ferrum: The bearer’s melee weapons get +1 Attack, and everyone in the unit gets +1 Attack in the Fight phase. Efficiency through violence.
  • Medusan Roar (Aura): Enemy units within 6″ that fail Battle-shock tests lose D3 models instead. Psychological warfare meets sonic brutality.
  • Iron Laurel: Boost your Objective Control by +1. Once per battle, crank it higher for the entire unit and become an immovable pile of steel.
  • Steel Font: Terminator leaders can literally rebuild a dead friendly Iron Hands Unit’s Bodyguard each turn. Who needs medics when you’ve got nanotech miracles?

Iron Hands 40k Codex PDF Stratagems

Iron Hands Rules 2Forget fire and fury, this detachment fights like a perfectly balanced spreadsheet of doom. Here are the highlights of the new Warhammer 40k Iron Hands codex rules PDF stratagems.

  • Armour of Contempt: Worsen incoming AP by 1. Old-school durability never dies.
  • Ruthless Butchery: +1 to Hit for elite units, or +1 to Wound if you’re swinging below Strength 8. Efficiency rewarded.
  • Augmetic Fortitude: -1 Damage for a phase. Because the Iron Hands simply refuse to feel pain.
  • Cogitated Ferocity: Pick between Lethal Hits or Sustained Hits 1 for a unit. Adapt, execute, repeat.
  • Dominator Beacon: Secure an objective even if the enemy is breathing on it. Flesh is weak, but your claim is absolute.
  • Dropship Extraction: Pull Terminators out of a bad fight and redeploy them later. Because retreating is fine if you’re teleporting back with a plan.

Caanok Var: 40k Iron Hands Rules

Caanok Var RulesThe Iron Hands finally got a proper face for their fury, and it’s mostly metal. Caanok Var, the new Epic Hero Captain in Terminator Armor, leads this detachment with the kind of cold rage that only someone with a hard drive for a heart can manage.

He’s got all the trimmings:

  • Deep Strike, Feel No Pain (5+), and Leader
  • A Storm Bolter and the Axiom — a melee weapon that can either smash tanks (S8, D2) or mow down infantry (S5, 10 attacks)
  • And that sweet 4+ Invulnerable Save because, apparently, faith in steel still works better than prayer

His Cold and Calculating ability gives his unit Lethal Hits against Monsters or Vehicles, and Sustained Hits 1 against everything else. So whether it’s a Carnifex or a Chaos Cultist, someone’s getting ventilated.

And with Cerebrex Logic Engine, he can hand out Scouts 6″ before the game starts and redeploy any Astartes unit after deployment, or even drop it into Strategic Reserves like he’s uploading troops to the cloud.

Iron Hands Combat Patrol

Iron Hands Combat Patrol box artThe Iron Hands 40k codex supplement nails their grim identity, merciless, machine-bound warriors who see compassion as a system error. But if smaller battles are more your speed, the Combat Patrol: Iron Hands is led by a Techmarine, and it’s got a decent amount of firepower inside.

The patrol itself leans hard into long-range suppression: heavy weapon infantry backed by gun platforms. Get the new combat patrol rules here.

Final Thoughts On The New 40k Iron Hands Codex Rules PDF

The new Warhammer 40k Iron Hands codex PDF finally gives the sons of Ferrus Manus what they’ve always deserved: cold, methodical destruction at every range. Between Caanok Var’s surgical redeploys, re-rollable precision, and damage mitigation stratagems, this army plays like a machine learning model that’s fed nothing but battlefield telemetry and revenge.

If you like your Space Marines efficient, unflinching, and mildly terrifying, the Hammer of Avernīi detachment is your new favorite toy. Just remember, when the Iron Hands say “flesh is weak,” they’re not kidding.

You’re here to delete the weak.
