Some big changes are coming with new AoS terrain and Chaos Slaves to Darkness rules, check out how it will affect the game!
Warhammer Community just unveiled more of what to expect in the new rulebook, this time how the new terrain will affect your army, the Chaos Lord warscroll, and what the Slaves to Darkness can do. The nice part about these is they are very helpful for not getting screwed by the double turn. Just like all the rules previewed, you will have more chances to do things in your opponent’s turn than ever before.Â
The other good news is, we already know the release date for the new edition and Dominion Starter box! Meaning these rules will be in your hands in just a few weeks.
Is this really going to be the best ever? We’ll have to wait and see on that!

New AoS 3.0 Terrain
The Dawnbringer Crusades defend their nascent homes until the surrounding areas are stabilised. An aqualith – typically imported from Ghyran at great cost – sits at the town’s centre cleansing corruption with its purifying water over a greater area every day.
These settlements don’t just exist in the lore. A fresh set of scenery is coming alongside the new edition to represent many of the buildings cropping up all across the Mortal Realms, including arcane defensive statues and purifying engines. Some are new cities that rise up in glory on the remains of ancient empires lost in the Age of Chaos, while others may be little more than the tumbledown ruins that speak of the many failed Dawnbringer Crusades.
There’s nothing wrong with grabbing new terrain! If you’re trying to go into the wilds and expand the realms of Sigmar, just be sure to bring some of these along with you!
Slaves to Darkness Rules
Slaves to Darkness really shine in the new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar, thanks to their access to lots of abilities and spells, which can greatly increase a unit’s power when combined with the new command abilities. The Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount’s ability, The Knights of Chaos, is a great example. It lets you re-roll charges and adds 1 to rolls to hit, but it’s applied during the hero phase, allowing you to use All-out Defence on the same unit in the combat phase.
The Knights of Chaos ability is really strong. Not only do you get to reroll that all-important charge, but you also add 1 to your hit rolls. Even though it’s only on your cavalry, it can really be game-changing. Next, adding to your save rolls is never a bad thing.
Slaves to Darkness also have some of the best, most resilient Battleline units in the game. Chaos runeshields protect against mortal wounds, and you have multiple ways to improve armour saves through Oracular Visions and the spell Demonic Power, among others. This makes the Hold the Line grand strategy a great choice for your army.
This is pretty nice and shouldn’t be that hard to gain 3 extra VPs. Just be sure to keep at least one unit alive!
Chaos Lord on Karkadrak Warscroll
With the new Heroic actions, hard-hitting characters like a Chaos Lord on Karkadrak can use Their Finest Hour at a key moment, allowing you to seize the favour of the Dark Gods! Access to cheap Monsters can’t be underestimated, as they let you use the new Monstrous Rampage rules. The Fomoroid Crusher and Mindstealer Sphiranx are great, as they have the Monster keyword without using up Behemoth slots.
Nothing too crazy here, but being able to use the monstrous rampage rules are really nice, especially when you combine it with a character.
Prayers
Priest unlocks powerful new prayers, Smite and Bless, and gives you a way to banish invocations and dispel endless spells. The new Enhancement rules also grant access to additional general prayers like Heal, Curse, and Guidance – all very good picks for Slaves to Darkness.
The Smite is the perfect way to pick off enemy priests and with a range of 48″, you can basically hit there from anywhere. Giving a unit a 6+ ward is also pretty nice and will help your units stay alive for longer.
