Horus Heresy 3.0 Guide: New Edition Previews & Leaks

Horus Heresy Previews staffers in office setting with new product box and dreadnought for saturnine images

Here are all the latest previews for Horus Heresy Third Edition (3.0) as GW responds to the new Saturnine box leak with sarcasm, memes, and even roasts themselves.

Updated on May 21th, 2025, by Rob Baer. This post has been updated with the latest, teasers, information, and links.

Someone thought they got the scoop on the next Horus Heresy box set—”Saturnine”—by leaking grainy photos that look like they were taken by a toy cell phone. Within hours, Warhammer Community’s Horus Hear Say page went hot and brought the fire.

Not with confirmations. Not with clarifications. With pure, tactical trolling.

The best part was that it wasn’t just a corporate sidestep. It was a full-body dropkick of sarcasm aimed squarely at the nature of online leaks themselves. And honestly? It was dope.

We break down the latest Horus Heresy 3.0 edition teasers below, but be sure to check out everything new with the Saturnine Starter set in this article, too.

Latest HearSay Site Previews

So, Games Workshop finally did it—they handed the reins of the Horus Heresy to the Salamanders. Not the Ultramarines. Not the usual traitor suspects. Nope. The fireproof, flame-slinging, green-armored legends are front and center. And they brought friends: push-fit models.

That’s right, Heresy just got a little more finger-friendly—and a whole lot more accessible.

The new edition of Horus Heresy seems to be a hard pivot into something bolder, greener, and maybe a bit burnier. Let’s break down all the previews and teasers from Games Workshop themselves.

That’s No Drop Pod

Look at this guys – a new sprue, and CLEARLY the base of a Drop Pod, but square? This is massive! What does it mean for squad sizes?

Hate to break the conspiracy thread, but it’s not a Drop Pod at all.

It’s probably the bit from the Arquitor Autocannon Emplacement.

Yep. That’s it. Nothing new, nothing groundbreaking—just a part from a kit we already know about. But here’s where it gets spicy: this smells like classic Games Workshop misdirection. Drop a “leak,” act all innocent, and sit back while everyone spins up wild theories. Textbook move. Pre-planned chaos.

Squarely Confused? Perhaps This Guy Can Help Us Out!

Horus Hearsay servo

A new sprue featuring a servo-skull has surfaced, sparking speculation about its intended recipient. Could it be for a Mechanicum Tech-Priest, a Techmarine, or perhaps even a new plastic vehicle?

Speculation about the introduction of a Blood Bowl-style weather chart has emerged, suggesting dynamic battlefield conditions.

The site also suggests that Dreadnoughts might be transitioning to square bases. While this could be a nod to classic aesthetics, it also raises questions about gameplay mechanics, particularly concerning armor facings and movement.

But I think this is just chaff. Same with the weather chart fluff.

Horus Hearsay melta
The Multi-Melta appears to be getting a design update for the Mk II armor in the new edition of Horus Heresy, with images showing a sleeker, more ancient aesthetic.

This refresh could indicate a broader initiative to retro-ize classic weapon designs, potentially affecting both the visual appeal and the in-game statistics of these armaments.

What in the Warp is Going On?

Horus Hearsay HeadThat head sculpt? It’s either a brand-new design or someone at Forge World just got very creative with a hobby knife. The mouthguard detailing is definitely good-looking. Could this hint at new character models—or even updated core units?

Chest PieceNow, the Shattered Legions chatter? That’s worth paying attention to. Raven Guard, Salamanders, and Iron Hands players might finally get their moment in the campaign spotlight. If you’re building a force, it might be time to lean into that battered, post-Istvaan aesthetic—lots of battle damage, mix-matched armor marks, and maybe even a few borrowed weapons from fallen brothers.

And let’s not ignore the psychic phase rumors. One unique lore per Legion? That’s spicy. Word Bearers just shot up in value, while you might want to rethink those anti-psyker loadouts.

Finally, this idea of characters issuing orders like in Legions Imperialis? If that’s true, we could be looking at some big shifts in how command structure plays out on the tabletop in Horus Heresy 3.0.

Horus Heresy 3.0: Health, Safety, & Adjustability

Horus hearsay previewThe recent previews have been all about the firepower—bolts, blasts, and more plasma than a Medicae ward on overload. The combi-weapon? That’s Classic sergeant or character gear.

Maybe it’s tied to that Mk II squad bundled in the box? As for that chunky plasma gun… well, it’s definitely something hot, but who’s supposed to hold it?

Horus hearsay previewIt’s not for the Dreadnought—unless someone’s hiding an extra limb under all that ceramite. Could be a coaxial add-on, though.

Or, it could be for the Terminators, though they’re already rocking a different flavor of plasma.

Maybe it’s for a new character we haven’t seen yet? Or perhaps a spicy new upgrade for basic tactical squads?

Token HHNew token on the table? Yep, word is it marks a unit as “titanshocked”—basically a fancy way of saying a superheavy just scared the bolts off some poor infantry. Sounds like big stompy boys are getting a shiny new rule to mess with the little guys.

Right now it’s all guesswork—but if past releases are any clue, we’ll get an answer just after we’ve over-speculated ourselves into a frenzy.

“Too Big to Be True” Dreadnoughts & More

A picture of the saturnine dread leak

Let’s talk about that Dreadnought. According to the post, it’s “clearly too big,” like someone scaled it up in Photoshop without measuring anything. The sarcasm was strong—suggesting the leaker borrowed Bigfoot’s camera or forgot how perspective works.

Metal BawksesAlright, check this out—battle-damaged tank sprue just dropped into the rumour mill, and it’s looking juicy. Pretty sure we’re staring at a new Rhino chassis… or maybe it’s a Predator? Could be a Whirlwind. Possibly a Vindicator? Hard to say with all the craters and scorched panels. What we do know? This is definitely not a Razorback. Not unless Razorbacks suddenly got a glow-up and a grudge.

There’s even a dig about the lack of a D18 die. Because obviously, any real Horus Heresy 3.0 box would include a die with 18 sides. The online rumors don’t lie; that’s just logic.

GW didn’t stop at the model’s proportions. They zoomed in on the image text, called it gibberish, then added a quick “our bad” after realizing it was French.

A picture of the saturnine distingerator leak

Apparently, the leakers didn’t bother cross-checking weapon designs either. “That’s not a bolter,” GW points out. “You can’t just make up new guns. Who are you, Mars?”  We assume referring to the principal Forge World of the Imperium.

GW Drops More Hints With Plastic & Text

Horus Heresy RumorsAlright, let’s address the servo-arm in the room, the number “2” slapped in a crosshair graphic? Come on. That’s not just clever graphic design; it’s a teaser with the subtlety of a Dreadnought in a china shop.

Add the “18” in the frame—match it with the 18 known legions, minus 2 lost ones, and you’ve got every lore nerd twitching.

Horus Heresy Rumors 2Now let’s talk plastic. There’s chatter that we might be seeing new objective markers. If the mystery crest floating around isn’t a nod to the Crux Terminatus or some early Void Shield generator prototype, we’ll eat our Tactical Rock.

Horus Heresy Rumors 3It feels like GW is loading the box with not just new units, but new mechanics. Could these be linked to a campaign system? Maybe a scoring mechanic? Someone better call the mathhammer crew.

On the weapon front, the rumors are flying hotter than a Salamander’s prom night. Are flame templates shrinking? Doubling? It depends on the leak you believe. Either way, it’s clear some kind of adjustment is on the horizon—either to balance out certain legions or to rework how area effects hit the board.

Horus Heresy RumorsAlso, tactical pouches. Yeah, we’re talking actual pouches on sprues that might indicate an ammo or grenade mechanic. Points-costed wargear? A return to wargear cards? The signal’s fuzzy, but the potential is spicy. Could it also be a sneaky nod to GW finally making the plastic Breachers?

Bottom line—keep your auspex tuned. “Horus Hearsay” might be a parody, but like all good satire, there’s truth tucked under the bolter smoke.

Heresy Incoming? Here’s What’s Heating Up

salamander primarch all primed and ready feature

Well, this is unexpected. In a universe full of over-the-top space demigod primarchs and moody genetically-engineered warlords, it’s the Salamanders—yes, those Salamanders—getting their turn at center stage. Games Workshop just confirmed that the flame-loving, drake-scaled warriors from Nocturne are the poster boys of the upcoming Horus Heresy edition and starter set.

Let’s be honest, nobody had their money on the green guys. For a setting dominated by blue-armored bureaucrats and warmongering lunar goths, the Salamanders have quietly hung out in the background, dutifully torching things and not asking for much attention.

Now? Vulkan lives, and his boys are bringing the heat—literally.

Push-Fit in Heresy? Believe It

horus heresy Green sprue labeled 2025

And then there’s the box itself. Rumors swirled for weeks, but the word is out: push-fit models are coming to the Heresy range. Yes, push-fit. Heresy fans, take a deep breath. It’s not heresy within Heresy—it might just be the thing to get more people playing without three sessions of resin therapy.

The sprues are green too, which is either clever color coordination or a tactical move to let everyone know: this one’s all Salamanders, all the time.

Dreadnought Drama—New Chassis Spotted

new hrous heresy dreadnought foot

Now to the real monster in the room—a dreadnought. But not just any dread. This one’s got a silhouette no one quite recognizes. Bigger than a Contemptor, bulkier than a Leviathan, and meaner-looking than your average walking sarcophagus.

Some are speculating it’s a brand-new chassis built just for this edition.

It’s got the presence of a tactical nuke in power armor, and from the grainy art shown, it’s poised to crush both infantry and debates about “what’s Heresy-accurate” in one metal footfall.

Wait… Is That a d18?

d18 for horus heresy

And then there’s the strangest piece of this already spicy puzzle: a d18. No typo. Eighteen sides. Theories are flying faster than lasbolts. Maybe it’s a mechanic tied to legion-specific traits.

It’s said to be part of a new Supremacy system. Maybe someone at GW just got tired of the d6 lifestyle and decided to give chaos a little more geometric flavor.

Whatever it’s for, it’s throwing spreadsheet tacticians and casual dice goblins into chaos—and let’s be real, that’s part of the fun.

Rumors: A Game-Changer in Plastic

So yeah, we’re still processing the fact that the Salamanders—the Salamanders—are leading the charge. Our group chat hasn’t stopped pinging since the reveal, and let’s just say opinions range from “Finally, justice for Vulkan!” to “Wait…a d18? Who hurt them?” But honestly? We’re into it.

A chunky new dread, models that don’t require a PhD in resin prep, and a legion that knows how to barbecue? That’s our kind of chaos.

You know the entire website they posted is satire right? The “green” sprue is a photoshop of the Flawless Blades sprue. The D18 is badly photoshopped. Maybe there is a new dread. There is no confirmation of any radical changes, but tampering too much with the rules will see the community riot, so here is hoping its just a big errata.
