BattleScribe 40k 10th Edition status: what’s updated, what isn’t, and where the 10e data files are maintained (GitHub, repos).
Battlescribe & Latest On Warhammer 10th Edition 40k
Updated on June 30, 2026, by Rob Baer with cleaner build steps and an alternatives roundup.
Honestly, everything other than Legends is in the app right now; the only real issues are a handful of small point errors that show up once you start poking at units. We redownloaded the 10.0 pack on a desktop install, and it loaded without trouble. The 10th Edition data manager entry sits two spots above the 9th Edition pack, and once you hit Update Data, you’re back to building 10th Edition rosters the way you always have.
While they say rumors of their demise have been exaggerated, the initial announcement from the data team did have everyone a little worried:
Unfortunately, as many of you are no doubt aware, the developer behind the actual application has basically abandoned all development work except anything that impacts his lazy income stream.
We are finally reaching a point where this lack of care is having major impacts on ability to maintain going forward.
As a result, the data may take longer than you probably expect. Based on what data authors know so far, we will need to rely on a functionality currently broken in battlescribe on a fairly fundamental level, so it may be that there is no 10th update until the Data community figures out how to piece things together in the crumbling architecture.
In the meantime, twitter.com/BattleScribe The official Battlescribe twitter handle is still there… If the app Dev checks it is unknown to us as he hasn’t spoken to us in 3 years.
The move right now is simple. Pull the 10.0 data and build your lists, but treat this as borrowed time. The same data team that works on Battlescribe is reportedly cooking up an open-source app so they can stop relying on the BattleScribe dev, and the data they’re maintaining already works with the New Recruit army builder if you’d rather get a head start on the eventual switch.
If you’re wondering when BattleScribe started working for 10th, BattleScribe Data’s Facebook post flipped the app live for 10th Edition on July 25, 2023, after the earlier silence had hobbyists bracing for no 10th support at all.
Battlescribe Data Maintainers Issue New Warning

NewRecruit and BlueScribe are the primary intended use platforms, (Warhammer 40k) 10.0 initial release was made as compatible as reasonably possible with Battlescribe, but will have issues on older mobile devices with low RAM due to known defects with the app.
The data standard will evolve to enable new capabilities, and if Battlescribe does not update to handle those changes then it will eventually break.
Forces (iOS/Android app) is also nearing rollout of a roster builder and should also be full functionality.
Honestly, the data team has been carrying this app alone for years, and that’s why the RAM and data-standard warnings above hit so hard.
10th Edition Warhammer 40k & Battlescribe
The basic install flow is short. In the BattleScribe data manager, find the 10.0 pack two spots above the 9th Edition entry, hit Update Data, and let it pull. On a desktop, it lands in seconds. Then start a new roster and pick your faction. The build flow is the same as it always has been.
Where the update goes sideways is mobile. Older phones with low RAM choke on the 10.0 pack and crash mid-usage, so if you keep getting force-closed, switch to a desktop install or move over to New Recruit. And even if you stay on desktop, the data team has flagged that a future data-standard change will eventually break BattleScribe outright, which means anything you build now is a list you might end up having to redo later.
So, for now, the 10th Edition Warhammer 40k data remains usable with BattleScribe, but at some point, it could outpace the app and maybe not even work on specific devices.
Other Free Warhammer 40k Roster Builders
If BattleScribe ever does break for good, the alternatives are already in better shape than most hobbyists realize. New Recruit and BlueScribe both load the same data that the BattleScribe team maintains, so the list-building flow carries over cleanly. The GW app is the official option, but it costs money and only handles the army-builder side. If you want the full side-by-side, our breakdown walks through what each one does well and where each still needs work.
Are you happy to see BattleScribe Army Builder updated for 10th Edition Warhammer 40k? Will you start using it for your new lists?
