Army Painter Fanatic Release Date, Features & Product Lineup Details

Updated on October 21st 2026, by Rob Baer with the latest info and release dates from the Army Painter.

If you’ve been looking for a new set of acrylics to get your minis on point, these might just be perfect! The latest details on the new Fanatic Warpaints line come from The Army Painter Video.

Army Painter Warpaints FanaticThe finished range has 216 paints: 162 acrylics, 18 metallics, 18 washes and 18 effects paints, each in an 18ml dropper bottle.

Army Painter Warpaints Fanatic 2When they set out to make these, they wanted to make paint with the best coverage, which makes it easy to use by pro painters and tabletop players.

Army Painter Warpaints Fanatic 3This took them four years to develop, and throughout the process, they received input from some of the best painters out there! One great thing about The Army Painter is that they are always taking feedback and actually incorporating it into their products.

Army Painter Warpaints Fanatic 4Pretty much everyone they talked to mentioned coverage and how you can’t make a paint like this to hold enough pigment and actually cover. However, they managed to do both and used 300%-700% more pigment in these new paints (depending on the color). When you put this much pigment in, it generally doesn’t cover and separates.

Army Painter Warpaints Fanatic 5They added a stabilizer to the mix (between the pigment and the coverage), and this let the paint flow, cover well, and have insane color values. It’s not often yellow that can be painted directly on a black base like this to actually cover it and look good! This also makes it very easy to use.

ix Warpaints Fanatic blue paints from one triad: Frost Blue, Runic Cobalt, Wolf Grey, Stratos Blue, Thunderous Blue and Night SkyThey wanted to do a triad system initially, but three colors just aren’t enough. So, instead, they went with the flexible six-color triad system. This allows you more versatility while painting and an easy system to work off. This basically gives you four triads for each set of traditional colors.

alt="Close-up of a Warpaints Fanatic skin tone bottle with the Warm Skin Tones scale printed on its label" The bottles themselves show what “triad” set they are in, so you know where to go from there value-wise (either brighter or darker.)  This should make painting much easier, especially considering they are also color-matched to their sprays and other paints.

Army Painter Warpaints Fanatic 8You know they wouldn’t leave you without mixing balls, and each bottle comes with two mixing balls inside.

Army Painter Warpaints Fanatic 9Last but not least, they tell you the actual color of the paint on the side of the bottle, so you don’t have to guess based on a crazy paint name. Plus, you can see the actual color, which is super convenient for color matching as well.

The Fanatic Paint Line will have many new colors, but they will be color-matched to their existing line of sprays and air paints (of colors with the same name). However, these will be taking over the place of the existing Warpaints.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need to thin Army Painter Fanatic paints?

Not always. The Army Painter says this pigment-rich paint can be thinned to extreme levels of transparency for advanced techniques or applied right over a miniature for full coverage. Tale of Painters’ review found a drop of water gave a smoother finish, so thinning is an option for smooth layers rather than a must.

What is the difference between Army Painter Quickshade and Fanatic wash miniature paints?

The formula is the same. The Army Painter says the Warpaints Fanatic Washes use the same formula as the original Quickshade Washes, but the color choice grew to 18 washes: 17 colors and a medium. If you liked Quickshade, the Fanatic washes behave the same way, with more shades to pick from.
