Check out Rob’s review on the ongoing Game Envy Exemplar Wet Palette Kickstarter, its quality, and how it all works!
Game Envy has already had a bunch of successful projects and this one has already been funded like crazy. Plus, the price of the Wet Palette is super nice. Not only that, they have all the manufacturing lined up and are hoping to have these shipped out to you before the holidays.
So not something you’ll have to wait around for forever, which is awesome when it comes to Kickstarters. Plus, you get a ton of palette paper with every level and they’ve already hit a ton of stretch goals. That way you won’t have to refill for a while.
Let’s check out Rob’s thoughts. Before we do though, yes, we know you can make your own! Not everyone wants to though, so if you built your own and love it, then that’s awesome! But we do know that is always an option.
Game Envy Exemplar Wet Palette Review
We’re going to do this in a bit of a reverse order since Rob has already started using it to test out how long the paint and such last on the palette.
This is basically the palette at full saturation. There is no mold resistance in here but if you want to keep the moisture down, you can just open the little seal on the top to keep water down. This is paint from four different days, so it works perfectly for the same day, or the next day if you keep it a little drier. Still, if you want to wet blend, even the four old day paint is perfect for it.
Next, the paper is a little thicker so you can even mix it with the back of your brush and not thrash the paper. Now, let’s check out how it assembles.
Setting Up The Wet Palette
Each of these comes with a ton of paper and sponges, which is just super nice. Just something to keep in mind for all your wet palettes, if you live somewhere super dry, you need to keep it wetter, if you live somewhere really humid, you can keep it drier.
Back to the set up, just let the water cover the sponge and pour out the excess water, and put down the paper, super simple! With the paper being thicker, you don’t have to worry about it peeling up either.
Extra Features
First up, there’s a seal in here which makes it both air-tight and watertight. This means it won’t leak all over everything, but then there is the valve on top to let more air in if you need it.
The top also has space for all your paints, brushes, and accessories. Meaning this is super easy to take on the go and paint wherever you want! Brushes are also part of the KS, they are going to be synthetic but are pretty nice overall.
The last really nice feature is you can flip the top up, and put your phone up there. Whether you need a reference or just to watch some shows while painting.
Testing the Watertight Seal
Rob put it upside down and shook it a decent amount. The good news? Nothing came out, meaning it should also be airproof, but we really don’t have a good way to test that…
This could also mess up your paints that are in there if you shake it all around, but as long as you keep it mostly level you shouldn’t have any problems with paint and water messes.
Size & Comparisons
This is about 10″ long by 6.5″ tall, meaning it’s on the bigger size for portable units like this.
Compared to the Army Painter one, is it’s much bigger. The only downside to the Game Envy one is, you can get the Army Painter in most stores. Compared to the Red Grass one, it’s about the same size, but for us, the features really take the Game Envy one over the top.
Plus, for the price, the Game Envy is even cheaper.
Final Thoughts
This one just has so many features on it, with the seals, the ability to keep the paint for so long, the air valve, the extra features, and the price, it’s going to be hard for a company to beat this. So if you need a wet palette, this is probably the project to back!
Stretch Goals
Since Rob did this video before the project came out, they’ve already hit a bunch of stretch goals. Check them out below, but they will probably add more soon as the project is doing well!
