The Warhammer 40k Combat Patrol boxes are a great choice for new players who are interested in exploring a particular faction. Combat Patrol Description
While the Chaos Space Marines Combat Patrol doesn’t contain any of the new lords released in 2024, it has a good mixture of units, including cultists, possessed, legionaries, and a Master of Possession.
Legionaries
It’s important to recognize that even the Space Marines, with all their training and discipline, can be swayed by the allure of Chaos. Whether they were corrupted during the Horus Heresy or, more recently, these formidable warriors combine their innate genetic abilities with dark blessings and malevolent sorcery. After many battles, they have become fearless, superhuman fighters.
Possessed
The Possessed are ferocious and savage Astartes warriors who have fused with the daemons of the Chaos Gods in a blasphemous union. Their bodies have been warped and mutated by their parasitic connection to the warp, causing their armored forms to flow like wax.
Chaos Cultists
Chaos Cultists are ordinary men and women who have fallen prey to the seduction of this power and serve as mortal devotees to these Gods. Despite their lack of proper training and equipment, these fanatics are commanded by mighty heretic warlords and take to the field in large numbers in the form of Cultist Mobs.
They charge headlong into battle with an array of improvised, stolen, and makeshift weapons. They use sheer force of numbers to take down the enemy.
Master of Possession
The Masters of Possession are a group of psykers belonging to the Heretic Astartes. They possess expertise in summoning daemons into living beings and utilize empirical energies to reinforce such tainted unions. During battles, they harness daemonic energies to destroy the souls of their opponents and channel them for greater advantage.

Is the Chaos Space Marines Combat Patrol Worth It?
Honestly, it’s not a great box. While it does have a little bit of value, you basically only get the Master of Possession for free. If you already have or don’t want that model, you really don’t save anything. A lot of the 10th Edition Combat Patrols have been lackluster, which unfortunately follows the trend.
While the units inside are decent, and you save some cash, we expect more from GW. However, if you need everything inside, it is cheaper than buying the models individually, so it does have value. Overall, the newer 10th Edition Combat Patrols have been mostly underwhelming so far, and this is following the trend.
What to Buy Next?
Again, this doesn’t get you a ton, so you can go in any direction you want from here. You’ll probably want Chosen, some tanks, and characters. With the new codex, your army lists might change, but you can’t go wrong with dreads, tanks, and swathes of infantry! If you want to go more the cultist route, you’ll need to get Accursed Cultists and the Dark Commune to really push the power.
However, you can never go wrong with getting the minis you think are cool and building an army around them!
While it may not be the best value, it still offers a way for new players to start building their armies and exploring the Chaos Space Marines faction. As always, we recommend buying what you think is cool and building your army around it.
