40k Slashed by Heavy Allocations: Space Wolves & Mission Deck FOMO

GW slashed the number of 40k Space Wolves Army Sets and Chapter Approved Mission Decks that stores could pre-order, in their latest allocations update.

Updated on May 25, 2025, by Rob Baer with new information and links to relevant content.

It looks like allocations are back for the new Warhammer 40k Space Wolves and Mission Deck releases, and while these aren’t the worst allocations we’ve seen (Games Workshop calls them “caps”), they will make finding the mission cards super hard. If you want to play with the new rules, we’ll just say good luck for now.

Here’s the latest on what you may be able to find for this week’s pre-orders now.

Games Workshop Allocations

At least the Space Wolves will have a little more stock than the Death Guard or Thousand Sons Battleforces. But even with 5-6 times as many available, either Games Workshop is experiencing exponential growth, or their forecasting team is inept.

Either way, millions upon millions of dollars in profit are getting left on the table each month since October of 2023, letting down their customers and shareholders (if they even notice) alike.

All the stores and groups we polled in our network of retailers reported that their orders were once again slashed numbers-wise for many of the new releases this week, lending more thought to the fact that there really doesn’t seem to be any traditional “new releases” available from Games Workshop anymore.

Here are the caps that were told to stores for May 24th

Were you going to try to pick up any of these new releases?

What it All Means

Well, that’s just the state of things, but seeing such small numbers of the mission deck is just wild and sad. If GW wants people to actually play with the new rules and not just find them for free on the internet, we’d think they would make plenty of them available…

For Games Workshop, it’s just business as usual, depending on who you ask.

We’re not saying it’s a full-on Heresy-level crisis, but let’s say the allocations make it look like GW’s Board of  Directors is worshipping at the altar of scarcity this week.

Between the tiny numbers and vanishing “new release fanfare”, it’s getting harder to tell each week if it’s launch day or just cleverly disguised FOMO.

It’s not good when a player can’t get there gw merch by IE card packs or battle force box’s but by limiting the numbers people and shops can pre-order might make to harder for the Scalpers from buying in a load of gw model set’s or box seats and mission deck’s and selling them online at a crazy way over the odds on price’s

It’s cause of the scalpers that they are capping it

The scalpers? So they cap order volume to game stores, because of the scalpers? Walk me though how that works?

Scalpers buy a load of something then sell it on eBay for double or even triple it’s value I’ve been looking for Lucius and lord cacofanist for emperor’s children and cheapest on eBay is about £60 plus depending on how hard it is to find is reflective of the price thay charge

That is why some of us have stopped buying GW and are printing our own figures for our games.
