GW just made their own “magic box” rules for Warhammer 40k in the latest Chapter Approved. Check this out- it’s not just for points changes!
If you play 40k with ITC rules, you probably know what “the magic box” is. It’s essentially a piece of terrain that’s closed on all sides where only infantry can move in/through. Knights, Primarchs, Vehicles, etc. have no real interaction with it which gives infantry units a leg-up on the enemy.
Recently GW gave some terrain their own set of “magic box” rules! Take a look at this update from inside of the 2019 Chapter Approved.
Sealed Fronteris Structure Rules for GW Magic Box Version Spotted
Looking at the right paragraph of text from page 110, this goes in-line exactly with the Magic Box ITC terrain rules. However, the Fronteris Structure also gives a 3″ bubble of cover outside of the building as long as the building is in between the shooting and targetted model. So what is a Fronteris Structure to begin with?

The Fronteris Structure was first spotted out of the Kill Team Sector Fronteris Kill Zone bundle which is no longer listed on GW’s site for sale.
Looking at the terrain piece, this is bundle still currently the only place where you can find it. However, that doesn’t mean that with new rules, they won’t be releasing it in the future. With that said, it’s a fairly big footprint. Especially when you take into consideration the 3″ positional bubble that goes around it.
With GW’s version of Magic Box rules found in Chapter Approved, do you think GW should continue to go down the line of other terrain kits and give them better rules? Would you like to see GW begin to make more ITC-Friendly terrain kits?
