The Scythes of Nurgle: Deathshroud Terminator Lore

Deathshroud Terminators are some of the deadliest warriors the entire Death Guard has to offer, and their sole job is to protect one man.

If you love giant putrid shock troopers, well, then you should love these guys! They are emanating pox and fear in equal parts. To come into contact with them is to surely meet death at the hands of Papa’s favorites. Well, we all know he loves Nurglings the most, but other than them…

With the book coming out it seemed the perfect time to take a look at these amazing warriors. Let’s all get out our biggest suit of armor and learn about some lore!

The Essence of Death

They are known by their enemies as the Pale Harvestmen or the Scythes of Nurgle. Maybe it has something to do with the giant scythes that they harvest the enemy with. Hmm, who would have guessed such inventive names… Anyway, they serve under Mortarion as some of the most elite warriors in his entire legion!

Just like the big guy himself they are ridden with so many plagues, they long ago stopped counting! They also long ago forgot they were even once normal Astartes and now only live to serve and spread the love of Papa Nurgle. One of the benefits of following Nurgle is you get swole! Quite literally, with a pestilence that grants them unnatural strength and size, they tower over the puny inhabitants of the Imperium. Another benefit (if you like tentacles) is a myriad of growths and extra arms that help them better use their Manreaper scythes.

Before they ever even reach the enemy the constant cloud of flies and pestilence that follows them chokes the enemy in seconds. The flies know, wherever they go is their next meal!

Deathshroud Terminators

Skilled and Scary

It seems strange for such massive hulking brutes to contain as much skill as they do. They use their weapons gracefully and cut down anyone or thing that stands in their way. Because of their skill and devotion, Mortarion sends them as his emissaries. If they show up to your world, no good will come of it! They also bear his ultimate authority, so killing one (if you can) is a sign of war. Obviously, the other factions of Chaos don’t care about that and try their best to thwart them whenever it suits their dark needs.

The last thing that makes them so scary is their silence. They utter no battle cries and simply strike the enemy down in an eerie silence. Sometimes they grunt in affirmation to Mortarion, but that’s about it.

Death Guard Art Mortarion Wal HorThat does it for this one! Let’s hope they get some good rules in the upcoming book!
