New Interview: Henry Cavill Wants to Make a Warhammer Movie

warhammer-movie-henry-cavillIn a recent interview, Henry Cavill talks about how much he wants to make a Warhammer 40k movie, his favorite armies, and even the meta!

In that interview with the Pilot TV Podcast, Cavill was supposed to be talking about the Witcher ( which he does of course), but he also had to get into Warhammer! On top of that, he also talks about taking on more fantasy projects in the future, where he actually works with the authors to make them.

There are so many amazing books out there we would love to see him make. And who knows? Maybe one of those books will finally be about 40k (he mentions a 40k movie would be his dream project).

The more exciting part though is when he talks about how badly he wants to make a live-action 40k movie, who he would play, the scale of the movie, and even talks about his thoughts on the 40k meta! Which just ingrains him more into the 40k community.

Let’s first look at some of his other Warhammer-related posts, then check out the latest including his favorite armies!

Henry Cavill Plays (or at Least Paints) Custodes!

henry cavil instagramHe broke out his Custodes and is putting some gold on a helmet. Turns out, he’s been in the hobby for a while. Check out how clean that paint job is. You can see some subtle gold highlights at the sharpest edges of the bit. Which, believe it or not, takes a long time if you’re not just going to be aggressive and drybrush a slightly-lighter gold over it all.

Henry Cavill Shows 40k Hobbyists Why He’s One of Us (again)

Henry Cavill

In this Instagram post, while flying on a (probably) private jet, he talks about traveling to the US for work, which maybe if you’re lucky, you can spot him while he’s here.

There are two pieces of good news here, first? He’s working on a new project! But what’s better is the book in the bottom right corner.

Henry Cavill 40k readingPenitent was on the table in his reading list. The Black Library book is a sequel to Eisenhorn and Ravenor and follows Bequin on a journey through the Grimdark future.

The Dan Abnett book isn’t really a one-off read, meaning he’s probably also read some of the Ravenor and Eisenhorn books. The book takes a deeper dive into the Inquisition and their nonstop effort against all things, not Imperial. It’s just really cool to see how much he’s willing to promote the hobby, even the Warhammer Official account liked the post. Since the 40k universe is so amazing, more people should get in on the reading.

Henry Cavill Proves He Listens to the Warhammer Fanbase

hencry cavil emperorIn a recent post on Instagram the way he frames the sun, it almost looks like a halo! Who else has a halo in a lot of artwork, that’s right, the Emperor!

This is such a cool pic that whether you love the Witcher or Warhammer, you can enjoy this one. His caption does have us wondering, does he have a full Warhammer collection of photos just waiting to be unleashed on the world?

Now that we’re done fangirling, how does this fit into Warhammer? That’s the real question. Well, if you don’t know who or what Neoth is, don’t feel bad.

It’s actually a name the Emperor was called in extremely ancient times. It comes from before the time when he first met Erda (who contributed some of her DNA for the Primarch project and ultimately scatted them through the Chaos vortex) and was already trying to advance the human race and bring order to the entirety of it.

The Emperor actually gave himself this name when he ventured to the first city of humanity after seeing a vision of his uncle murdering his father.

This is barely mentioned in the lore, so any hobbyist, much less Henry Cavill to reference this, really shows his knowledge and research! He even hashtagged it with: ObscureWarhammerReference and he isn’t kidding!

New Interview: Henry Cavill Wants to Make a Warhammer Movie

warhammer-movie-henry-cavillIf you want to listen for yourself, the Warhammer part starts around the 23-minute mark of the podcast. Here are the highlights though. First, he talks about wanting to be in a 40k movie and not only be a character, but also help in the making of it. When talking about who he would play, the interviewer mentioned Eisenhorn and Cavill almost shoots that idea down. Why? Because he would rather play a Primarch!

GW, just get this movie made already!

He even says he would leap at the opportunity, so why isn’t this happening yet? The real reason, he understands that it needs to be handled perfectly, much like the original Lord of the Rings movies. So he doesn’t want to just jump in there and be known as the man who ruined 40k, or 30k. Side note, a 30k movie would be awesome! He mentions more than once, a movie would be his dream opportunity but isn’t sure what he would pick as the actual setting quite yet.

Henry Cavill on Playing Warhammer 40k:

cavil-eisnhorn-bookHe starts by mentioning he’s never played AoS but does play 40k. So maybe, just maybe you could one day be lucky enough to get a game in with him! How cool would it be to see him at a tournament? He also mentions that he bought and read every fantasy and 40k army book just to read them as a kid and teenager. So when you try and school him on lore, beware! As a kid though, he mentioned he never really had anyone to play with but learned the rules.

Anyway, he then goes onto his favorite armies, with Custodes topping the list, then Blood Angels and Salamanders taking a close second. Before the interview ends, he mentions how he likes the idea of Grey Knights hunting down Daemons and that the new codex makes them very strong in the meta!

Looks like our guy is keeping up with the game quite closely! You can listen to the interview here, and his part starts at the 24:34 mark.
