GW celebrates the new Leviathan 10th Edition starter box release, but not all share their joy as allocations and stock issues remain.
Games Workshop took a ton of pre-orders for Leviathan and actually sold out entirely on the webstore (at least here in North America) in about three hours. Obviously, they are pretty excited and celebrating the launch of 10th Edition Warhammer 40k, and now they are sending people to local stores and GW stores to get the box.
Sure, this seems like a win for them, but not all stores are happy about how it all played out.

So, let’s start with the webstore experience.
As GW said, they ended up running a queue for everyone who wanted to order one. We had some reports of people waiting up to 5-6 hours both in person and online, but everyone so far seems to have gotten the box.
Prices on the secondary market are also stable right around retail currently. Plus for the GW webstore, it seems like the queue worked for the most part, which is a good thing, as it seems to have stopped the scalpers.
Leviathan Allocations Hurt Game Stores World Wide
However, things didn’t go quite so smoothly for stores. Here are some of the messages we received about allocations from stores that were allocated heavily.
This statement was posted by The Outpost, a large Indie LGS in Sheffield, UK. Via their email list late Friday, just hours before Leviathan was set to go live on the Games Workshop webstore.

Some Retailers Had Plenty of Copies
Flip Side Gaming in New Jersey has sold nearly 500 copies of Leviathan on eBay alone already, so it’s safe to say they got plenty more than that.
Down under in Australia, retailer Gap Games reported selling 700 copies online as well.
Also puzzling is that stores reported that GW was only shipping a maximum of 8 dice trays and 15 deployment zone markers for their pre-order bonuses, no matter how many copies stores bought.
Where to Find A Copy of the Leviathan 40k Box Set
Games Workshop is now sending people from their website to local stores, as you can see below.
The Games Workshop store finder definitely points out the corporate stores prominetly, but you can also find local stores near you.
That being said, if a store only got three boxes, they may not have any more left for sale, unfortunately.
With some orders only receiving three boxes and a maximum of 15 and eight of the freebies all of these factors seem to put some stores at a disadvantage when competing with GW’s webstore for pre-orders.
Unless something else changes, we could see how some stores may be in for a tough summer regarding 10th Edition and GW products overall…
