Scalpers seemed to have cornered the market for the last signed The End and The Death Horus Heresy Books, as prices are through the roof.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this, as most new releases have been heavily allocated lately, but this might be some of the worst examples of scalpers and Games Workshop products we’ve seen in a while. With one listing even coming in near $1,000, it’s just wild to see. GW even had a queue set up for this one, but that didn’t seem to do much to stop scalpers from picking up all kinds of available stock.
Scalpers Corner The Market on Last Signed Horus Heresy Books
Considering this is the collector’s edition, it was only available from the GW webstore, where it sold out in no time. The problem with these webstore direct items is they always sell out right away. For whatever reason, it seems like the scalpers always get a ton of the stock. However, this seems to be somewhat by design, as the Games Workshop CEO said they will continue to sell out of every release. So, if you want to score the new releases (especially a collector’s item), you better get in the queue the first second you can. From the looks of it, even if you have to wait just a few minutes, you will be hard-pressed to get anything.
As you can see on eBay, the average buy-it-now price is nearly $450, which is just wild. Some bid prices are cheaper, but we’ll have to see what they end up going for. As of this writing, most have 6 days or so left.
Buying From Scalpers
Hobbyists online are now commenting negatively about people buying these books from scalpers, as it only makes them want to continue the practice. However, if you’ve been a faithful reader of the series and want a limited edition copy, this is, unfortunately, may be what you have to pay right now. In theory, if they can’t sell their stock, prices will hopefully go down. Just remember, something is only worth what you’re willing to pay. So don’t let the scalpers have your hobby dollars unless the price is something you’re comfortable with.
We understand this is a limited edition item; people always say that is an excuse, but this seems a bit different. From the looks of it, the scalpers got the majority of an already heavily limited item.
