Dwarfen Mountain Holds Description
The Battalion box contains a powerful army with 32 Dwarf Warriors forming a sturdy battle line, accompanied by 32 Quarrelers that can also be assembled as Thunderers. The box also includes two Gyrocopters which can be built for aerial combat as well as bombing raids if assembled as Gyrobombers.
Warriors
No Dwarfen army is complete without its sturdy, reliable legions, and these classic kits are perfect for beefing up your growing force.
Quarrelers/Thunderers
Quarrelers, who can also be built as Thunderers, bring some serious ranged firepower to the table. And if they get dragged into a melee, they can still hold their own and get the job done.
Gyrocopters/Gyrobombers
Gyrocopters, or Gyrobombers if you prefer, soar above the battlefield, unleashing deadly firepower or dropping devastating bombs. These classic units highlight the resourcefulness and impressive craftsmanship of the Dwarfs.

Battalion Army Box Comparisons
Below, you can see how similarly priced items sell and how much value they have. $185 is a hard price to gauge, so we’ll pick a few different boxes to examine.
Box Set Name | Price | Qty of Minis | Value |
Tomb Kings Starter Set | $290 | 92 | $200 |
Bretonnians Starter | $255 | 76 | $160 |
Cities of Sigmar Spearhead Box | $140 | 17 | $95 |
Dwarfen Mountain Holds | $185 | 66 | $115 |
Orcs & Goblins Battalion Box | $170 | 73 | $60 |
Well, as you can see, the values and number of models versus pricing are quite varied across game systems. That even seems to make Old World look like the better value overall between Warhammer 40k and AoS.
Is the Dwarfen Mountain Holds Battalion Box Worth It?
If you need a bunch of infantry, then this is totally worth it! If you have a bunch of the older models, this is a lot of what those armies already had. However, the Dwarf’s army box should always be great for someone new to the game. Even at the $170 price, this will save you a decent amount of cash.
What to Buy Next?
Well, you have a decent starter force of infantry but no real characters to speak of. So, we’d grab some of the new Dwarf characters that are fresh sculpts! Then, playing Dwarfs is fun when you bust out a lot of guns! We’re talking a bunch of artillery and then maybe finish off with some Ironbreakers, Hammerers, and maybe some Slayers if you’re feeling a little wild.
New Arcane Journal
The army can be expanded beyond the existing units listed in the Forces of Fantasy book with the addition of the Arcane Journal: Dwarfen Mountain Holds. This 48-page supplement provides new rules, background lore, and scenarios. It introduces profiles for three named characters from the Era of Karl Franz, as well as unique units such as the renowned Goblin Hewer and additional Dogs of War options. The supplement also offers two Armies of Infamy, enabling players to field a Royal Clan and an Expeditionary Force, along with new Runes and Runic Tattoos.
The Dwarfen Mountain Holds Battalion Box offers exceptional value for those looking to strengthen their infantry forces. Despite its $185 price tag, the box includes a substantial number of models and provides a compelling value compared to similar items. For newcomers to the game, this box serves as an ideal starting point for assembling a formidable Dwarf army.
Muster your forces, stock up on blackpowder, and settle some grudges – the Dwarfs are back, and they mean business!
