Warhammer 40k Commander Decks Reprint May Be Too Small for Demand

Warhammer 40k Commander Decks Reprint

MTG’s Warhammer 40k Commander reprint is here, but limited stock could make these popular decks tough to find once again.

Wizards of the Coast confirmed to IGN they are reprinting the Warhammer 40k Commander decks, but it’s calling this a “small reprint”. And for a set of decks that launched at $59.99 and now sell for over $350, that could be a really good thing for pretty much everyone.

We covered these decks card by card when they launched in 2022; this time, though, Wizards hasn’t given us a price, a release date, or a print quantity. They did say, though, that availability will vary by region. So obviously more decks would be awesome, but if this run is small and only reaches some regions, they could sell out before most players even see one on the shelf.

ARTICLE SUMMARY:
  • What’s happening: Wizards of the Coast confirmed a small reprint of the Warhammer 40k Commander decks, headed to distributors and stores soon, with availability varying by region.
  • What we have seen so far: The decks launched at $59.99 each on October 7, 2022, and the four standard decks now carry TCGplayer market prices between $231.37 and $356.81.
  • What’s next: Wizards still has to announce a retail price, a release date, print quantities, and whether the Surge Foil Collector’s Editions are part of the run.

Four Years Later, the Same Four Decks Are Coming Back

mtg precon Magic 40k Commander mtg precon Magic the Gathering dynastiesThe decks first launched on October 7, 2022, so this news landed almost four years to the day. Plus the same four ready-to-play, 100-card decks are getting the reprint too: Forces of the Imperium, Tyranid Swarm, The Ruinous Powers, and Necron Dynasties.

This one isn’t just for the Commander crowd, either. The cards are loaded with familiar 40k characters and Warhammer art, so if you’ve got a Necron army on the shelf, you have as much reason to want this deck as anyone in a weekly Magic play group.

A $59.99 Deck Shouldn’t Cost $356.81

Magic 40k CardsEach standard deck was $59.99 at launch, and here’s where they sat price-wise on the secondary market on October 8, the day the reprint news broke:

Product Market Price, October 8, 2026
The Ruinous Powers, standard $231.37
Tyranid Swarm, standard $299.81
Forces of the Imperium, standard $317.00
Necron Dynasties, standard $356.81
All four standard decks $1,017.02
All four Collector’s Edition decks $1,855.12

Those are TCGplayer market prices tracked by Hoard, so this is more a guide than a guaranteed checkout price. But even the cheapest one, The Ruinous Powers, is close to four times its launch price, and Necron Dynasties is pushing six times the price. And that’s without digging up the most ridiculous listings online.

You’ve probably seen numbers near two grand floating around too. Those are real, but they’re all four Surge Foil Collector’s Edition decks together, so they’re not a fair comparison to a single $59.99 standard deck.

Wizards hasn’t definitively said whether the Collector’s Editions are part of this reprint yet, sadly.

“Small” Doesn’t Tell Us Who Actually Gets a Deck

Magic 40k CardsSure, more stock could ease pricing pressure on sealed decks and the regular cards inside them.

Nobody’s promised prices will drop, overall though. So, until we know print numbers, store allocations, and the retail price, there’s no telling whether these end up with players who want to sleeve them up, or just give the next round of buyers a short window before prices climb again.

Final Thoughts on the Warhammer 40k Commander Decks Reprint

Either way, if you missed these in 2022, this is probably your best shot to pick them up bar none. So,we’d be talking to our FLGS now ato get your name on a list before a price is even announced.

After that, it’s all about what Wizards says next. What do they cost, what regions will they be avaialble in, how many are coming, and are the Collector’s Editions in the mix? Those answers will 100% determine whether players can actually find a deck they can afford in 2026.
